We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jacquelyn Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jacquelyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My initial thought process behind starting my own business was creating a legacy for my children. I wanted my children to not only see what hard work and dedication created but to also leave a legacy for them. I also wanted to make my mother and father proud of me. And lastly, I no longer wanted to work for someone else; having them call the shots concerning my life and valuable time. Time is a gift and I could not waste it any longer on unhappiness and having others dictate what I did with my gifts.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the CEO of several businesses, in addition to the Founder and Executive Director of a 501 3c nonprofit organization, as well as a Leadership Academy. I am also a celebrity lifestyle and a clarity coach.

I am not your average CEO or Entrepreneur. I wear many hats. Not because I think I am so great, but, GOD has given me gifts and I want to make sure I do not waste one moment on this earth; especially when I can help others, as God ordained.

My very first company, Mynding My Own Bizness Entertainment, is a production and educational company. Within in our first two years, we had Executive produced a short film that has garnered four top awards for best short film, including an award from HBO. This company and our film, THE Bully, allowed us to go on create The Stop Bullying Project®️, which is the educational branch of our company, that goes into schools, companies, organizations and teaches a curriculum about bullying and how to combat it. Shout out to my daughter, Shanasia McClain, who was the inspiration and writer of not only the film, but it’s title track, Stop Bullying!

With the success we garnered so quickly, things started changing quickly. There were more screenings, more speaking engagements, and the revelation of how many people I came in contact with, that was in need. The more i travelled, the more women and teen girls I was seeing who were in situations that pulled at my heart and reminded me of the young teen mother I was, when I had my daughter.

I was unknowingly on my way to walking into my passion. Walking into where I was meant to be. That’s when the idea for nonprofit organization was born. I wanted to find away to help out homeless women and teen girls. I am not ashamed of my past. It’s what made me who I am today: The Street Doctor.

I realized that I am not like everyone else, trying to keep things nice and pretty and in order. I am not perfect. But I care. I care about the next person. I care about being the woman I needed when I was in these women and teen girls position. Surprise The Struggling INC., began as a global hashtag movement. #Surprisethestruggling. I put out a call, asked a few friends to help me collect new and slightly used purses and fill them with hygienic toiletries, in addition to socks, gloves, and grooming essentials that they know homeless women and teen girls could use.

What you get in a shelter, is not much. Sometimes you don’t get anything at all. That, is not an easy thing to go through. Before I knew it, I had pop up events happening in almost every state. And even in other countries! I have countless Ambassadors that all help to make #Surprisethestruggling meet our goals of helping others.

Over the past six years, we have grown and have reach countless women and teen girls, and even men! As with anything that is going to make a lifelong impact, it must grow and evolve. And that!–is the challenge we are faced with: growing in the right direction.

As we work surprising these Beautiful souls, I realized that they need more that just toiletries. They need the tools to become who they were meant to be or the guidance to make the changes the needed so they could become self sufficient, providing for themselves and their families. That’s when I created the Dr. Wilson Leadership Academy. DWLA.

Here’s a profound key to peace and happiness in life that I have learned: You have to learn to give back. We have to keep the cycle going. We cannot take any of these earthly things with us. We have to learn the lessons, apply them, live by them, and share them.

With, DWLA, it’s about empowering my community. It’s about teaching others to be self sufficient. Teaching others to be their own fishermen. Within DWLA, we offer a myriad of services. The top two being a four week Clarity Coaching Workshop and a 12 week Entrepreneurship Intensive Training Program.

DWLA is about creating leaders in our community. By offering coaching, consulting, strategic planning, mentoring, and a myriad of classes and workshops, we are giving people the tools they need.

As busy as my schedule gets, I am most excited about speaking and motivating others to find out what their passion is and to live their best life. A few years ago, I started a number one in my market Podcast, Uncut Jewels, with my daughter as my cohost. It was loosely based off my Noon Noon Jewels that I share daily, giving people the truth in a way they may have never heard it before. From this, I authored my third book, Noon Jewels. This book has been a blessing! I get to not only coach others, but now, I get to go on the road again, and speak to others who are where I once was, or those beginning entrepreneurs who need insight, motivation, and someone who is going to tell them the truth!

People talk about brand building. I am my brand. Dr. Jacquelyn Wilson, Street Doctor. I am meeting people where they’re at. Period! I show up to make a difference. To give you more than you expect… in a good way! My brand is real, honest, bold, and unapologetic. You can’t be afraid to mess up and make mistakes. This journey is filled with them. Those are our lessons. But we also can’t be afraid to let some people go. To see people leave. And to have people talk about you for no reason. That’s part of the process of succeeding and when you are determined to change your community, your family, the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give thanks to my Mother, for showing me how to be a selfless giver. How to care for others whether they returned it in kind or not. To my Father who inspired me and showed me what it means to be loved. To my children for being my catalyst to keep going when things get rough. To remind me, this journey is not just for me, but also for them and their legacy, as well. To my brothers and sisters; it’s family over everything. To my mentors, who pour into me and share their wisdom with me. Who leads by example, and has fought for others so tirelessly. To those working behind the scenes with MMOB Entertainment, Surprise The Struggling, The Stop Bullying Project, The Doctor Wilson Leadership Academy, Uncut Jewels Media, and Queens Don’t Trip We Adjust Our Crown AIM Initiative, Thank you. And most of all, to GOD. Without His visions He places in my heart, I wouldn’t be where I am supposed to be.
