We had the good fortune of connecting with LayWills and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LayWills, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue and artistic and creative career because I found the value in using my voice. I know I have a story to tell, and I had to use life’s opportunities to do so. My journey to success has been so unique. It has been filled with tests, trials, and a strong will to overcome my struggles to reach my blessings. I’d love to use my story of triumph to reach other people, and that’s where my art comes in.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other artists, is my love for stories. I’m obsessed with them and I look for them in music, movies, TV series, and every other medium there is. Because stories are so important to me, I make it my duty to share ever layer of mine. I give it all through my lyrics and the characters I choose to portray when acting. I will always make sure to be honest and transparent through each medium.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we’re hanging out; we’re eating. It’s just that simple. I am such a foodie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thinking of someone to thank for my success, I would have to name my grandma Blondie. She played a major role in my journey. She recently passed in 2017, I aided her in her final days, and I have kept her in my heart since. She taught me so many morals and principles that have shaped who I am as a person. She also gave me the push I needed to leave my comfort zone and take my dream from the southeast to LA.
