We had the good fortune of connecting with Zhane Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zhane, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I have always been a giver. So in terms of giving whether that being physically, mentally or emotionally; I am content. If a client leaves my chair feeling better about their appearance, are reminded that they ARE beautiful or even have learned a new makeup skill I know that I have done my job. All in all, the idea of someone leaving my space with something they can take away from the experience makes my day!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional makeup artist based in Brooklyn, NY. My style of makeup and techniques sets me apart from the average makeup artist because my goal is not to transform your face but to emphasize your beauty, all while learning your skin type and educating you on every product used so that you can even try yourself at home. It’s really a help me help you thing. Being that my style of makeup is not to heavy or what you consider “instagram makeup” , I come across challenges of being looked over. Nether less I know that my time will soon come and I will come across my projected audience that will appreciate my style. The makeup industry is super competitive and you have to have faith in your brand to keep going. I want the world to know that I am an artist who is dedicated to not only helping and making you look and feel beautiful but is here to educate you along the way; I will not stop until the world sees who I genuinely am!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I are coffee fanatics so of course the day would began at a cute coffee shop like Lips Cafe. Lips Cafe is also sort of a social club so there would be many creative people to network with and they are always hosting a fun event. As the day progresses we would head over to Dumbo or Soho house for private parties/events. There are always interesting and people of status in that setting who are good to network with. We would definitely continue the day with visiting a gallery or museum for learning experiences and/or photo opps. A pop up shop or two is a must visit in Manhattan for some free goodies. To close out the evening we would head to a party with FNF (Fun with Friends) their events are always a vibe !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Along my makeup journey my girls and my brother have always been my backbone of encouragement and have always pushed me to keep going. Major shout outs to my little brother Ziearre, my best friend Maimouna and my loving cousins Natiece, Kenya, Elaine and Ayana !
