We had the good fortune of connecting with Tianyi Xie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tianyi, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
For me, this is a very interesting question. There are many people in this world who say, “Never give up. One day you will become the person you want to be.” But there are also many people who emphasize that talent is an important part of success. If you’re not born to do something, forcing your way through it is likely to fail miserably. I’ve been thinking about these options, moving forward or backward. Although now I feel vague too. But I think it’s tied to your responsibility and passion. If you really like the thing very much, then you have to stick with it no matter what happens. Although the reality of the factors will sometimes stop us from moving forward. But since you like it, you should be prepared to protect that passion. Responsibility is also one of them. I think people need the courage and determination to take responsibility for failures. That way one can be unafraid to take risks and pursue one’s goals.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic career is now moving forward in a calm and progressive way. What I’m most excited about is that I’ve finally found a way and a style that I like to work in during this process of discovery. This process has been full of obstacles and thoughts. I’ve been experimenting and searching in multiple styles. At the same time, in this process, I have learned how to handle the balance between life and my interests. My thoughts on life and confusion are reflected in my art, and those black, awkward, mysterious moments are the subject of my creations. These small emotions and pains make up our lives, and I want to share my world and perspective to the viewer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Atlanta and if I had a friend coming here. At lunchtime, I would take him to the aquarium and some Chinese restaurants. I am fascinated by the life of the aquarium and the beautiful light. And since I am from China, I have some knowledge of good Chinese restaurants in Atlanta. In the afternoon, I would take him to a vintage store to check it out. There are some really interesting little stores in Atlanta. They don’t just buy clothes, but furniture and decorations as well. They all look very interesting. In the evening I would take him to a live house called MJQ. they play a lot of retro R& songs from around 00, which is the style I like. It’s also a fun cave experience because they hold it underground.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my whole world should be praised. Even the people and things that make me sad. My friends and family are the people I want to thank the most for their enthusiasm and help in supporting me as I continue on in my life and career. There have been many difficulties and misunderstandings along the way. But they have given me a lot of help and helped me get through it. I am very grateful for that. At the same time, those bad things have taught me many lessons and made me a more mature person. Although I don’t like the feeling of becoming mature, it helped me to have more experience and preparation when facing the world.
