We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Grandoit and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
One of the most important decision’s that I had to make was not to give up. When your back is against the wall, and you’re barely able to keep your head above the water, when your just completely drained because everyday, all day your working trying to find answers and come up with nothing. When the city is giving you a hard time, and almost trying to make it impossible for you to get your business permit so you can operate your business, and the partners that were supposed to be there by your side just up and leave. I had to really fight with myself not to give up, and walk away from business. Giving up almost became an option, but I’m thankful that I didn’t let it because if I had gave up I wouldn’t be no where close to the success that I am seeing now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A lot of people don’t know that I was a police officer here in Atlanta for 10 years. I loved being a cop. I enjoyed chasing hard core criminals whether it was a car or foot chase. What I really loved about being a cop the most was actually talking to someone and doing whatever it is that I could possibly do to get them to see things differently. Especially when it came to domestic violence cases. Every call I would take my time, and just have that long conversation and really just pray that the victim or suspect would just listen.

It was about 4 years ago when I decided that I needed to do something about my financial well being. My credit score and profile was trash. It was when I met my wife and after our third date I told her I was serious about her, and that I would propose to her in a year, and her response was that she we would have to go over each other’s credit report. When she said that I hired someone to repair my credit. The person that I hired ghosted me. I didn’t want to let my credit report get in the way of love so I rolled up my sleeves and learned myself. Long story short my score went from the 400’s to 700’s. I talked about it so much that I started to help people around and later started my credit repair company, Grand Slam Solutions. My company has helped hundreds of people with restoring their credit.

I started leveraging my credit and started a trucking company, Grand Slam Logistics, and I’ll never forget that feeling walking into work after I purchased my truck. I felt safe. I felt and knew that I could feed myself forever, and didn’t need to work for anybody else. I felt in control. The trucking industry wasn’t easy, and though I had some really profitable weeks, I also loss some money and when my truck got damaged I sold it and got out of the trucking industry.

Months later I purchased my first car to put on Turo. I purchased a toyota corolla that I still rent out til this day. I later purchased a few other cars, and the first few months I literally didn’t get one booking with my other cars. It was when one of my cousins who was visiting me and needed a car, I rented to him one of my cars privately. It was than I started renting all my cars privately and started my own private car rental company. It’s been one long ride that I am truly enjoying. I know have and manage over 25 cars, and have an office 2 miles away from the airport.

The biggest lesson that I learned is that you can’t give up, and that you have to be your biggest cheerleader. It’s also very important to seek mentoring, and not only get into the right rooms, but to also have the right conversations, because those conversations can turn into compensation.

Grand Slam is customer service driven, and we strive to give our customers an excellent experience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So if my best friend was here for a week the first place i would stop by is Grand Slam Car Rental to pick up a car. I’d probably pick up the Chevrolet Corvette c8 or the Range Rover. First stop would probably be Slutty Vegan to get stultified. Another place that’s a must is Benchwarmers. Which is a local sports bar where I still get my police discount even on drinks:-) We would visit restaurants/bars like Gypsy Kitchen, O Sha, Brick Store, Desta, and Pasha. Definitely have to visit a strip club either Strokers, Onyx, or Magic City.

A bike or walk down the beltline is always fun.

I part of running club so going for a morning jog at Piedmont Park would be something we would do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize Him 500, Marcus Barney, for creating a community for entrepreneurs where we can build and grow in a safe environment. Big shoutout to my Recession Proof family. My entrepreneur journey started with me just wanting to help out as many people as I could when it came to repairing their credit. I joined Recession Proof in need of information on how to better serve my current customers, and I got way more than I paid for joining the mentorship.

When it comes to the car rental sauce, I have to really shoutout Pushman Mitch, and Rashawn Mitchell. Two brothers who have really been hitting grand slams not just in the car rental space, but in life. I am forever grateful to them both because as mentors they are constantly pouring into me, and leading the way to more success.

I also want to shoutout my beautiful wife, Dominique. My journey has not been easy what so whatever. Lots of tears, and really hard days. Even though at times she would have no idea what to say or do, she stuck by my side. She pushes me to be the best version of myself everyday.

My mom, one of my besties, also really has been there for me throughout my journey. She constantly tries to pour encouragement, and wisdom into to me.
