We had the good fortune of connecting with LaCora Monet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaCora, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve Always believed in the saying ‘no risk no reward.’ I think that risk is the fabric of entrepreneurship. Yes it’s scary and yes it’s lonely but it’s very necessary. Imagine if the Wright Brothers never invented the airplane what would the world look like As it relates to traveling. Growing up I didn’t Exactly know what risk meant I knew what survival meant. In my career I understood that a lot of me surviving was taking the risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am Creator & Founder of LaCoraMonetCosmetics a skincare and beauty brand which I started in 2013 after my mentorship with Mr. Charles Gregory who was a Master Cosmetologist and Make up Guru to the stars he worked with Tyler Perry, Halle Berry, Viola Davis and many more. I learned a lot about the power of ownership from him. I went on to attend the international school of skin nails and massage therapy. I completed the aesthetics course and begin to explore a career. I continued to freelance makeup for many years working with many celebrities and influencers as well. I’ve always loved and had a passion for make up and beauty. While in the industry I met Romeo international who was a DJ and had made a name for himself within the Atlanta club scene he also would partner with different companies and host events. I would tag along to help set up the events. I guess he saw that I was really good at networking & organizing. We were talking one day and he was telling me that his manager at the time Miss G, had a media company and she needed a female host to do interviews.I will admit I was terrified with the thought of being in front of a camera and talking to people at first. But I tried it anyway and was horrible but I stayed consistent and began really enjoying Hosting events. After a while I was introduced to radio and met Darrel Davis. Darrel had been in radio for many years and I was just fascinated by how much he knew about the industry. Radio became A part of my life and it was a comfort that I never really felt before it just came naturally. I now host my own radio talkshow called ‘Marvelous Minds’ where I interview successful entrepreneurs and influencers helping to educate others on their journeys to success. My advice to anyone looking to create something great and have longevity is to be consistent and to always have an end goal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a beautiful city with so much to see. I love the The Georgia Aquarium, the ambience is everything. You feel like you’re really in the Ocean swimming with sea creatures. I love to visit Little 5 Points. It’s diversity is welcoming and very interesting my favorite spot is Crystal Blue a metaphysical gem and stone boutique. Not too far away is Ponce City Market, I enjoy the scenery and the food spots inside, on a nice day it’s fun to ride scooters and bikes around the city or even hit up Piedmont Park. My fave spots to eat in the city would be Salata, STK, Ray’s on the River, Cafe Intermezzo, so many more!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to recognize someone very near and dear to me who recently passed this year Due to complications from COVID-19 Mr. Charles Gregory. Mr. Charles mentored me throughout my early stages as I begin to build my brand in the cosmetics and beauty industry. I will never forget the positive influence that he gave me while I was under his wing Rest in Peace Mr. Charles. I’d also Like to recognize DJ Romeo International and Miss G who definitely inspired me in the media and entertainment industry. If it weren’t for them pushing me and encouraging me to step out and be true to myself I would not be where I am today, so thank you! Also Paul and Tiffany Nutall who allowed me the opportunity to dream and create something amazing! And lastly I’d like to thank Captain Darrel Davis for giving me a shot at something that has changed my life forever. I’m truly Grateful to have such beautiful people be a part of my life journey.
