We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer McCall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My parents were refugees from Vietnam. They gave generously of their time and resources and spent a lot of time translating for other Vietnamese people in our community. I tell people that helping others and giving back to the community is all I’ve ever known. I went through a tough divorce myself, and that has helped me to relate to my clients. I had a client tell me that it takes a special person to make it through fire and come back with buckets of water.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a family law attorney practicing in northeast Georgia. What sets me apart from others is that I went through such an ugly divorce myself that when I was in law school, I said I would practice anything but family law. After I became a practicing attorney at a general practice firm, I quickly discovered that the cases where I felt I made the biggest impact were family law cases. I realized that my past experience helped me to understand my clients. Family law is tough, but I understand what clients are going through, and I care deeply about them and their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely spend a lot of time on the Gainesville Square. My office is located in Hunt Tower on the Square. I feel very passionate about our historic Square and previously served on the Main Street Board. There are so many lovely restaurants on and near the Square. We would walk the Highlands to Islands Trail. I would also take her hiking in one of the many beautiful nature trails and then out on a boat ride on Lake Lanier. Green Street and its historic homes are also a favorite, especially around Christmas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am an active member of WomenSource, a local nonprofit whose mission it is to empower women by providing educational programming. There is something very special about women empowering women. This organization recognized me as a community hero early in my career, which gave me a boost of confidence and gave me a platform to return the favor and empower other women.
