We had the good fortune of connecting with Raye Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raye, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember that I fought hard to improve the health (and wellness) of women. I want people to remember that I was a fiery, passion filled advocate for improving maternal and infant mortality rates in Georgia. I want people to remember me as the holistic birth worker who would support her clients and help them find their way to health.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a holistic birth worker, I go a step further with my clients and seek to help guide them to healing (and birthing) holistically. I find that most of my clients choose me because in some way they relate directly to me, and my own healing journey- which allows me to have a deeper connection to them because I have gone through what they are facing. This makes me happy (and proud!) that I never gave up during my own holistic healing journey from PCOS, endometriosis and infertility; because if I had… I wouldn’t be able to be the doula I am today. Although it wasn’t easy, I knew that I was called to this path and work for a reason.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am sure that my answers are going to be so different than most lol! I am a country girl at heart, and I NEED my outdoor in nature time. We would be hanging out hiking Kennesaw Mtn, Sweetwater Creek Park, walking the Beltline, visiting the King Memorial and picking fruit and veggies at Southern Belle Farm with my toddler. We are eating ALL the yummy food from vegan at Tassilli’s Raw, Herban Fix, and Superior Vegan, to Ethopian at Bole Ethiopian, to Indian at Aamar Indian to Jamaican at Scotch Bonnets, to the ATL Food Truck Park. I love food and trying new things!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my doula trainer, Tomecas Thomas of Omorose Blessings & Kandice Burts of Blessed Queens Doula Care. I would not be a birth worker without these two ladies teaching, supporting, and mentoring me in this work!
