We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus T Clyburn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus T, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Wingate, North Carolina. I was raised in a small neighborhood call Piney Grove. Growing up in this neighborhood I saw a lot of things, some good and some bad. Growing up in this neighborhood I had to grow up faster than the average young kid. Being a product of a single mother household there was somethings that I had to learn on my own. Being that I didn’t have my father there were a lot of things that tried to pull me away from the calling God had for my life. Things such as drugs, negative influences, peer pressure and etc. I thank God for my mother because she always instilled in me that I did not have to be a product of my environment. She always told me to always do the opposite of what I seen others do in my environment. However there was some positives growing up in this neighborhood. Everyone in my neighborhood knew each other and but when push come to shove we always looked out for each other and helped out whenever we seen someone in need. I believe that everyone has the potential to accomplish a lot in life but not everyone have the opportunity. As well as have positive role models that will encourage and motivate them to not fall into the trap of their environment. This has impacted me because I know firsthand that guidance can help others from failing in life. So I live my life to try and give guidance to others to give them hope and motivate them to break generational curses.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a school counselor. Also I would like to think that I am a mentor to others. I am also an author. I have published three books which are entitled, “Worship is not a Song”, “Can’t Spell Good Without God”, & “Academic Probation.” If you would have told me that I would be a author and public speaker I would have said you are crazy. But God had other plans for me. I went through a lot growing up. I made some bad choices in life that almost cost me my life. Overcoming my struggles I want to encourage others to never give up but to always trust God. My favorite scripture says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).” I’ve learned that life is meant to be hard so that we can grow and mature so that we can help others who are going through tough times. I would like others to know about me is that I am nothing without my Lord Jesus Christ. My life was in a mess, I wanted to take my life but Jesus stepped in and He saved me. If He can do it for me, He can do it for you. My brand is all about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and to encourage others to push forward when they feel like giving up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a very interesting question. If my friend was visiting I would take them to play golf. I love playing golf and can spend all day playing. I would like to take them to take them to eat at FireBirds my favorite restaurant. I am a very laidback person, I don’t do a lot of going out, so going to places where I can relax is what I find most interesting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Aunt Deloise Thorne. She was truly an inspiration to others. She really was the epitome of being a great mentor and leader in her community. She will truly be missed as she is now with our Lord Jesus. I would also like to recognize my grandmother Linda Reid, who continues to show that giving up is never an option. No matter what comes her way she always come out on top. I would like to recognize my Uncle Rev. Sinclair Thorne. He was always someone who I admired and looked up to. He is a pillar in his community and a mentor to others. Lastly I would like to recognize my Pastor Louis Lotharp. Someone that puts his needs to the side to meet and fulfill the needs of others. A mentor and counselor to many. All of this people along with many more have all inspired to help and serve others and strive to live a life pleasing unto God.
