We had the good fortune of connecting with Sathya Callender and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sathya, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would like my legacy to be both my non profit organization (Scars of Survival Inc), and my publication (Scars of Survival Magazine). I want people to remember me as the woman of strength, empowerment, encouragement, with a loving and caring heart who stands up for what she believes in and the voice of domestic violence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my loyalty, commitment, dedication and the pleasure in wanting to see everyone win. I’m that CEO that will bring people along my journey and not wait until I get to the top. I love diversity and stand outside the box, so when others are going one way I’m going the opposite way. My journey hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth all the obstacles. I’ve learned that it’s not about me but about the lives that I have and will continue to impact globally. I would like the world to know that Scars of Survival Magazine has cultivated a safe place for survivors to share their stories of inspiration and triumph.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend is visiting for a week I would first ask do they have an idea of things they would like to do and that’s what we would do first. In addition to that I would take them to visit the Martin Luther King Historic Site, have to take a peaceful drive to the mountains and check out all the scenery. I’m a foodie so I would definitely visit a few restaurants that even I haven’t checked out. I’m not a drinker but would go enjoy a night at the Mediterranean Cafe (love the food and music).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s two people I would like to give a Shoutout too that has shown me genuine love, support and encouraged me on my journey. Those two individuals are my amazing husband Mr. Wilson and Mr. Damian Jackson.
