We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Reyes-Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cindy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks has brought me nothing but success both in my life and career. I’m a big fan of “Go big or go home.” You have to stop with the “what ifs” and just get it done. Deep down we are all scared but I think that’s what sets us all apart. The risk takers and the non risk takers. Life with no risks is no life at all. At least try and see where it all takes you.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a sugarist. A title not many have heard because we are so unique. We do body hair removal services. We do this by using an organic paste made up of sugar, lemon juice, and water. This technique began centuries ago in the Middle East. It’s now becoming more popular and demanding making a sugarist hard to find. I feel like it was not easy to get to where I am at now. Not due to obstacles but due to mental health. I was diagnosed a couple years ago with anxiety, PTS, and OCD. I feel like we are our biggest critiques. It’s hard to escape and avoid your own fears and insecurities. It’s like you’re constantly in war with yourself. It took a lot of determination and mental stability to really let go of what was holding me back and follow my dreams. It takes first telling yourself “okay I have an issue and I need help.” Which is hard to do. But once you admit to yourself that you need help and get the help needed that’s a battle won. Allow yourself to feel, to be vulnerable, and to be loved. I want to let people know that my brand, my little studio, my space is a safe place. A place where you can trust me with your problems and insecurities. The services I provide are very intimate and I feel like I’ve built the best bond with my clients and allowing them to never feel judged by me and enjoy their experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love places where you can get several things done at once. Especially with Atlanta traffic it’s just best to not have to drive everywhere. A restaurant I enjoy eating at and have celebrated different events is Allora. This is located in Atlantic Station downtown. You can go shopping, drink coffee, or visit their huge candy store all in one. I love easy going outings. Somewhere where you don’t feel pressured and you’re at peace seeing and trying new things.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This question made me get teary eyed. It made me think about everyone that has helped me get to this point in my life and what they mean to me. 1st off obviously my immediate family. They have for as long as I can remember supported me in absolutely anything I want to do. My mom has always had my back by not only telling me I can do it but also watching my kids while I go out to follow my dreams. My husband has seen my good, bad, and ugly. He’s always also supported me and my crazy ideas. My brothers and dad always hear me out and give me business/life advice. Now at the age of 28 I feel surrounded by friends with positive boss babe mindsets. It’s true when they say to surround yourself with positive people, as it really impacts your life. Last but not least the owners of My Skin and Beauty Spot. The salon I currently work in. They opened up their doors to their salon and hearts to me and changed my life and my family’s life forever. I will forever be grateful for their advice and opportunities they have given me.
