We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jared, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to run my own business, and had been exploring different business plans and options for a while. Once I found Pilates and was able to rehabilitate myself and improve my life, I knew that it was what I wanted to provide to others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I turned my injuries into opportunity. In 2011, after I herniated disc C3, C4, C5, L4, L5 and S1 which cased nerve damage, I turned to Pilates. Pilates allowed me to rehabilitate my back while continuing to stay in shape and avoiding surgery. Then in 2016, I experienced my worst injury yet; bulging, herniated discs C2-C7 which caused loss of strength in my left arm for six months and numbness in my thumb, index finger, arm, shoulder and back. Plus, I also ruptured my L5 which caused my toes to go numb and my calves, glutes and piriformis muscles to stay cramp up. Once again, I turned to Pilates to rehab my injuries while avoiding the need for surgery. Now, I use my experience and expertise to help others who are living with injuries or working hard to avoid them. One of my biggest accomplishments was being asked to work with the Jacksonville Jaguars personal Pilates Instructor. As well as having several NFL, PGA, and MLB professional players coming to our studio. My favorite is the number of people we have helped. The way we have impacted their lives for the better with fitness, health, a community to be apart of and a place to make new friends.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Royal Palm for some amazing food wine. On the second day we would jump on the boat and do some fishing then clean up and go to 11 South for dinner and finish the night off at the blue Jay listening room. On the third day we would go to the beach and surf or paddle board then head to Taco lu or Dockside. After dinner we would head home to play music and cards

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First was my friend that encouraged me to try Pilates 18 years ago, Angie Hipskind. When I was injured she reminded me about Pilates and the benefits that it provides. That led me to purchasing the book Pilates Return To Life Through Contrology by Joseph H. Pilates and William John Miller. When I started my Pilates training I was furtunate enough to be trained by the amazing Master Instructor Matthew Comer. The support from family, friends and our instructors made the process easier. When starting the business I received financial support from my family and friends to get the studio up and running. I would list name after name with family and friends, but two that contributed the larges sum of money with no timeline for repayment was my father Roger Patterson and my good friend Nathan Lutz. As the studio enters its 7th year my most tenured instructor of 6 years Christine Stauffer has played a major role with the success of the studio and helped to provide me with a work, life balance.
