We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Miller- Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Integrity. I believe that having integrity or the lack of defines a person. Having integrity means that you have a moral compass that you whole heartedly believe in and your actions, thoughts reflect that as well. When you have integrity you treat people well in any form of dealings whether that’s personally or in business relationships.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Cierra Miller-Douglas and I am the owner of POSH Beauty Collection and the University of POSH. I create custom glueless closure wigs via the sewing machine and also teach men and women how to start their own business doing the same.

I started my wig business unexpectedly, actually. New to the city of Memphis I could not find a hair stylist nor had the financial means to continue getting my hair done every 2 weeks so I turned to the University of Youtube for assistance. Wigs were starting to become a trend and I saw that having wigs would be convenient as well. I began watching videos online so I could learn how to do my own hairstyles and constructed my first wigs by hand. Soon realizing that making wigs by hand took entirely too long I started learning about the sewing machine method. My husband, bought me a sewing machine for our 1 year wedding anniversary and as they say, the rest is history. The goal was just to make wigs for myself but the better I became at making wigs the more and more people inquired and then POSH Beauty Collection was birthed.

Since 2018 making wigs via the sewing machine I have had several individuals inquire wanting to learn how to construct wigs but at first I did not think I was qualified to teach. So with some planning and mapping out how to effectively teach a course I started offering 1-on-1 Sewing Machine Wig Classes. Since April of 2021 I have successfully taught over 30+ men and women how to construct and customize closure wigs. I am currently working on separating my educational platform from my wig business and have now created ‘University of POSH’ which will strictly be for wig classes and business education.

Running a business is not for the weak, there has definitely been challenges and obstacles. However, with every obstacle there is an opportunity to learn and that is my outlook on life and my business. I don’t believe in failures, I view everything as a chance to learn and improve where necessary.

If you were to learn anything from me today it would be to have integrity in all aspects of your life. When it comes to business don’t forget your WHY. Yes, the goal is to become profitable but your ‘why’ should be to provide value to your customers. I want to be known as the Chick-fil-A of the hair industry when it comes to customer service. Having great customer service is highly valued and not common anymore. People often overlook the value something so simple as customer service is but it’s very much needed for a successful business.

I’m just the girl who knew she could and DID. I hope to be an inspiration to anyone who wants to do the same. Nothing is out of our reach!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat!

For brunch I would definitely recommend SAGE, they have amazing food, mimosas and various cocktails. The ambiance and service is amazing as well.

For dinner I would recommend Coastal Fish. The food, service atmosphere is amazing. Coastal Fish is located within Shelby Farms and sits right next to a lake and it’s such a beautiful view, especially during the fall around sunset.

Shelby Farms also has a lot of activities that you can engage in such as horseback riding, zip lining, kayaking and more. Or if you want to keep it simple a nice picnic by the lake would be enjoyable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I give praise to Jehovah God. All of the talents, skills and blessings I believe to come from God. Without God nothing is possible.

In addition, my #POSHBeautyChic community is also a critical reason for my success. These are the men and women who patronize POSH Beauty Collection and believe and support my brand.

My loving husband, Travis, he saw my potential before I did. He is my main supporter, my ‘Mr. Make It Happen’ and ‘Mr. We’re Gonna Figure It Out Together’. I am so thankful to have a loving partner like him.
