We had the good fortune of connecting with Madam J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madam J, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is being able to do what I love, while creating a positive impact on others. My goal is to motivate and inspire, and I do this through multiple business ventures.

As the owner of Madam J Beauty, a plant powered beauty brand for sensitive skin, I’m able to encourage and help boost the confidence of others through better for you skincare. As a natural hair & beauty influencer, I assist others with their natural hair & skin struggles, and give them light to keep going to embrace their natural curls & coils. As an actress, I can entertain and educate others through engaging and thoughtful films and plays.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My full name is Jessika Carter-Ross. I’ve been a creative for as long as I can remember. I’m also left-handed and have a twin sister with different birthdays – so life is kind of interesting! I was introduced to art at a very young age in the form of Acting. Additionally, as I got older I had the opportunity to work as a Beauty Advisor specializing in Makeup Artistry.

Madam J Beauty is a plant powered beauty brand for sensitive skin. I was suffering with severely dry and sensitive skin and I couldn’t find products that would help – without the use of harsh artificial fragrances or ingredients. I noticed while working in the beauty industry, that non toxic beauty was very scarce at the time. Additionally, the majority of the cosmetics marketed towards Black women were detrimental to our health. I created Madam J Beauty to solve what other brands couldn’t – skincare, powered by plants for sensitive skin.

I’m proud to say that you can find our brand in 4 retail locations and we were able to continue being open through the pandemic. Since June 2019, our journey hasn’t been the easiest but it’s definitely been fulfilling. Securing funding to scale has been one of our biggest challenges. However, we continue to operate with the current support we have and grow every year. I’ve learned that my impact is much more important than anything. To see the looks on people’s faces when they are able to overcome their skin challenges – it’s amazing!

If you’ve come for self care, healthy living, and pampering & loving yourself, you’ve come to the right place. Madam J Beauty understands the many tasks that women have to endure throughout life: whether that’s being a mom, a partner, a sister, a friend, an employee, and so much more!

My brand, Madam J, is all about content creation and influencing. I have gained an audience that I’ve built trust with. My community shows so much love and I really enjoy putting out content that educates and inspires them. If you’re looking for natural hairstyles, tips, tutorials, and skincare, check out my social media channels for more!

Lastly, I just got cast for a Short Film – how exciting! I’ve been acting since I was a child but I took a 10 year hiatus. I decided in January 2022 that I would make a goal to get back into the acting industry. I was booked for two plays earlier this year and now I’m preparing for a Short Film. I’m excited to see where these journeys take me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so many amazing things to do in Atlanta! We’d definitely check out the Botanical Garden, Georgia Aquarium, MLK Historic Park, World of Coca Cola, take a little hike at Stone Mountain – and I will never pass up a chance to visit Slutty Vegan!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special thanks to my husband Christian and my twin sister Jasmyne for always being in my corner and supporting everything I do!
