Meet Jamal Douce | Photographer & Media Personality

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamal Douce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamal, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by my family, my gf, and my tribe of friends. I’m inspired by giving a life my parents can enjoy more in their later chapters. I’m motivated to set a good example for my nephew & niece. I’m motivated to give back to those who helped me during my times of need and lowest points in my life. The inspiration comes daily from those who love and believed in me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very versatile and unorthodox. I don’t really have a conventional style. I like to create whatever comes to mind and shoot whatever i feel like the direction i want to go with my work at the time, It varies. I like to explore and test the waters as well and work with people who can challenge me and push me to newer limits. My unorthodox style separates me from others cause you don’t know what to expect when i post except greatness every time. I’m most proud of breaking into concert photography. Its one of my passion and it was very hard to get into. Im excited for some of the shows coming up. I got to where i am today professionally by never giving up. Staying humble when needed and also showing my presence when need be. Building the right connections and treating others with love and respect. The lessons i learned along the way is to stay positive. Be fearless, never let your confidence waver when things hit a rough patch. Use the times you feel low to push through and create your best work. Tough times don’t last, eventually the tides turn. Use your experiences to push you to be greater. I want the world to know that in the 10 years i’ve been doing photography, i had to overcome so much. I got told no a thousand times. I had hardship after hardship , but i never let it destroy the light I have. I want people to know that as long as you’re still breathing, you can fight for the best days of your lives! The best days are always ahead of you with the right attitude and execution. That’s how i brand myself. With optimism and perseverance. My art is a reflection of that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the aquarium right here in Atlanta. I would take them to this brunch spot called BQE, really great vibes there. I would also take them to downtown Atlanta to grasp some of the art and culture.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my therapist for saving my life. Giving me hope during the lowest moments of my life. Those sessions really helped me grow into a better person and have a deeper understanding of the roots of my trauma without judgement. I’ve grown tremendously through those weekly sessions. I want to shoutout my parents for all the sacrifices they made. My siblings for being great to me and for setting examples in their own lives on what greatness means. I want to shoutout the friends who never abandoned me and made feel like i was just a convenience to them. Thanks for loving all parts of me and the foundations we built to have a strong and positive friendship. Special shoutouts to my cousin Ryan. My brother in all reality. I owe a lot to him. I want to thank all my supporters. Shoutouts to those who rock with me. You guys are all appreciated. I love you all. It’s DreamGeng forever.
