We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Having the creative freedom to develop projects and tell my stories has always been a dream. When the opportunity came to build it from the ground up, I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started in Hollywood as a football stunt double on USA’s Necessary Roughness in 2012. I was promoted to my first speaking role along side Mehcad Brooks. I was completely hooked in the business at that point and explored acting. After landing several acting roles, I learned that the process of creating films was more fun than acting in them.

From there, I restarted my film career from the bottom as a Production assistant and worked on over 20 films learning the ropes. After learning every part of the business and hungry to learn more, Game Changing Films Blessed me too be a sports coordinator behind the camera and still perform football action in front of the camera. Some of the most noticeable films with them are King Richard, American Underdog, Stranger Things, Disney’s Safety, Focus, Swagger and Woodlawn to name a few.

From there I was Blessed with a job at Tyler Perry Studios as Mark Swinton’s Assistant, the Vice President of Tyler Perry Studios and SVP of Scripted Programming. After working for him and learning the world of producing, writing and programming for 2 years, I was Blessed with the opportunity to write an episode of Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living. The episode went well and I’ve written over 10 episodes at the studio thus far and produced a beat for Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan on Nickelodeon.

Writing was my original passion and film and football lead me back to it. Telling entertaining stories that take people away from the stresses of the world and motivate them at the same time has become my new passion. With God, I’m sure more productions than I can imagine are on the way!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a home body/country boy that loves ordering in with my family more than anything lol but my favorite spots to grab some food are the Atlanta Fish Market, American Deli, Jersey Mike’s and Apple Bee’s.

Walking up Kennesaw Mountain and playing tennis at Windy Hill Athletic Club are my favorite downtime joys.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe everything I have to God and the amazing team He put around me. The incredible company Game Changing Films showed me the ropes of the film world. Then the amazing mentorship from Stephanie Leonard and Mark Swinton gave me incredible amounts of information that no film school could deliver. Mark Swinton believed in me and gave me the opportunity to become a staff writer at Tyler Perry studios and I’ll forever be grateful. Mr. Perry created a platform that gave young filmmakers of color a chance and I’m beyond thankful. My mother gave me a heart to believe that anything is possible and with my beautiful wife, daughter and son on the way, I’m looking forward to the next chapter.
