Meet Mocha Monroe | Entrepreneur/Content Creator/Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mocha Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mocha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was to be able to use my voice and create a platform to facilitate in moving the culture forward. By culture, I mean hip hop culture and by moving forward, I mean showcasing the hip hop culture in all aspects not just one dimensional.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud that I haven’t given up. I’ve been creating content for almost a decade. Starting with 1 subscriber and now on the thousands, with a million on the way. I also say I’ve lived several lives and I’m not afraid to start over until I get it right. Before, this life, I was a stay at home mom and wife. Living day in and day out to serve my family. That marriage ended after my third child was conceived and it left me in a horrible state of depression and fear of what I would do next. I started content creating because it gave me a chance to have a voice, it gave me my confidence back. Through the years my brand has evolved into a media company with the focus of highlighting all angles of media with a focus on the hip hop culture. I have learned so much about myself throughout this journey with the biggest lesson being you can be scared to do something but don’t allow that fear to stop you, just do it scared. Authenticity is the focus of my brand. With so many media blogs and drama channels these days, my brand will ensure accuracy. Your Media, Your Way!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m such a homebody but if I had to take a friend around my city; I would start in the morning with a delicious breakfast at Cedar House, they have the best breakfast in Birmingham, in my opinion. Then, we have to hit the McWane Center. I’m a sci-fi/science type of gal and the McWane Center would be the perfect afternoon past time. We would definitely be ready for a sweet treat after our science excursion; so we would get a sweet treat from Insomnia Cookies, they have what you want to satisfy a sweet tooth. After that, we have to go get something to wear for our night on the town. So, we would head to Soca Clothing to get the perfect outfit. Once we get our outfit we have to get a nice lunch before our girls’ night starts. So, we would head to Urban Cookhouse for a delicious salad or sandwich or both. After, getting dressed, we will go to the Plum Bar for some drinks and live music. The drinks always make you hungry, right? So, to top the night off we have to stop by The Purple Onion to get the best wrap and cheese fries you’ve ever had. The perfect night!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My baby girls, Taylor and Ava. They have been my biggest supporters and driving force to do what I do. They encourage me to create even when I’m burned out. They keep up with my numbers more than me. I’m so very blessed to have them and I don’t take that bond for granted.
