We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Zobel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, what do you attribute your success to?
I’d say the most important factor behind my success is being genuinely interested in what I do. I don’t always just look at it as “work”. I care about my work. I take pride in my work. I think about my work all the time. I don’t “clock in and clock out”. Also, there’s not even an option to do that in the industry I work in. We’re always working, When we are not working, we’re on call. So if I didn’t have such a high interest in my work/job, I would not be successful at all. That’s why my most important factor behind my success is really just being extremely interested in what I do for a living. I eat, live and breathe it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Senior Director of Athlete Marketing at Element Sports, a top NFL agency. I oversee Element’s multi-million-dollar marketing division which includes spearheading marketing and branding opportunities for Element’s clients, which includes elite NFL players, professional coaches and media talent. Some examples of companies I’ve done endorsement deals with include Nike, Adidas, Old Spice, Fanatics, EA Sports, Panini America, Bud Light and many more.

I also run Element’s social media division – we’re one of the most-followed NFL agencies on social media.

The road to get to where I’m at now took a lot of work (and stress), but I’m grateful that all of it has gotten me to where I’m at now. It’s been a blessing to see the success I’ve seen so far, but my motivation is knowing how much further I can take all of this. If anyone is going to have high ambitions, especially in this industry, the road will never be smooth no matter how successful you are – and I’m totally fine with that. It’s part of what we signed up for. My goal is to keep getting better in every way I can and to always take challenges head-on. I try and let my work speak for itself! I am also grateful to work with an incredibly talented team around me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first food spot I’d take anyone visiting me would be The Local. Best wings in ATL by far. I live right by there and probably go there too much, but it would easily be my first food stop if I was hosting friends/family in town. They have a great beer selection too. Some of my other favorite food spots are Cypress Street Pint & Plate, Superica, The Optimist, Cooks & Soldiers and Two Urban Licks — to name a few.

In terms of activities on the weekend, I’d bring everyone to The Beltline and Piedmont Park. You can start in Piedmont and then walk The Beltline where there are many great options to eat and drink. Places like New Realm, Ladybird and Krog Street Market are some of my favorite spots on The Beltline. Other fun places to go out for drinks at night are Painted Duck, The Beltline (again), Gypsy Kitchen, Ormsby’s, Hotel Clermont, Church and many more.

For Outdoorsy people, I’d recommend going to North Georgia and doing some of the great hikes there. There’s many places, including Helen, in North Georgia that are beautiful.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Element Sports gave me a shot when I was a young, college graduate and for that I am forever thankful.
