We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Le and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I believe that work-life balance can be a subjective topic. To some, I focus too much on my work. To others, I am not working hard enough. The truth is, the time we allocate to work and our personal lives will change as we go through different chapters of our life. I work more hours now compared to my first job after my undergraduate degree, but I am also enjoying life more despite the additional work and hours. The reason for that is that I’ve set both short-term and long-term goals for myself which motivate me to work hard now so I can reap the benefits in the future. Not only am I determined to meet these goals, but I also enjoy the work I do. I am able to express the creative process through my work and that has made my life more delightful. Balance is how you are able to work and still make the best of your time. Sure, some days I wish I had more time, but regardless, I am thankful and appreciative of the work I have.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited about meeting other creatives. I think each person is unique and how we go about the creative process is very interesting. Some creatives love physical art, others enjoy vlogging, some create travel content while others enjoy reviewing food. All of these fall under a creative umbrella and I can appreciate each person’s work.
I got to where I am just by being me. So to clarify, yes things were quite easy because I am simply just being myself. And I am capturing the moments along the way. Although I find things being easy now, there were definitely times when I did find blogging challenging because with so much content on social media, sometimes you get caught between doing things for yourself and creating content that you think others enjoy. I think its okay to run into a creative block once in a while. It’s okay to take a break from social media. And some people may not understand what you do, but what really matters is how you go about the process. I don’t look at likes, comments, or followers on my page. I follow people the inspire me, I like and comment on pictures that are beautiful, and I think that’s all that truly matters.
My brand is really about just being yourself. Capture moments that you care about, post what you like, do things on your own terms.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop would be Ponce City Market. I love the hip aesthetic and the vibe there. You have your food options, a little bit of shopping, there’s a taproom, and a winery area with outdoor seating. And you have entertainment on the rooftop with an amazing skyline. I love to eat at Hawkers because it’s right on the beltline. You can go rent a bike or a scooter and explore the city’s art after eating.
Atlanta has Piedmont park which is great if you have pets and want to enjoy a nice picnic. You can also rent skates and skate around if you have good coordination!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my mother for being my number one supporter. My mother has always shown me, tough love, while growing up, and as I have aged, I have learned to appreciate her words more and more. Neither of my parents had things easy growing up as they were both first-generation immigrants. My mother works months without a day off and I have to really hand things to her, her level of determination, drive, and hard work is beyond a normal human being. She truly is a role model. I do not know one person who works harder than her.
