We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Byrd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was how can I create an impactful platform that fulfills my purpose by way of operating in my passion.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In my mid teenage years I suffered a fractured ankle during a skateboarding accident. After wearing a cast for 2-3months my left leg experienced muscle atrophy. was embarrassed to wear shorts as one leg was skinny and the other muscular. I began strength training to build back the muscle I had lost and I quickly fell in love with strength training. I have always had a big heart and extreme passion for others. I experimented with different exercises and creative ways to target specific muscle groups continuously yielding results and I would teach my friends. As I grew older, I experienced emotional rollercoasters, but I found that weight training was my outlet, my escape, my happy place. God gave me the vision of Byrd Fitness LLC as a platform to help people grow physically mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. A huge part of self confidence and self esteem is not just how you see yourself outwardly, but internally as well. The fitness business has it’s ups and downs; however, my motto is: 1. remain consistent and always trust the process. 2. Always remember your ‘WHY’! 3. The journey was never promised to be easy, but every every pound of resistence makes you stronger in the long run.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have to visit iflyatl which is an indoor skydiving experience that is priceless. The painted duck as it offers bowling and a plethora of other social games, activities, and a bar. Pappadeaux is one of my favorite restaurants as I enjoy calamari and alligator. Ponce city market is a must visit place as well offering food, adult games, and a beautiful city view.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my two beautiful daughters. My kids are my ‘WHY’. They elevate me, motivate me, support me, and encourage me. They look at me as their super hero, but little do they know, they are my super heroes.
