We had the good fortune of connecting with Oluwatoyin Adetunji and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Oluwatoyin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was turning my passion into profits. I am a coffee lover, but also enjoy specialty coffee. My career in healthcare allowed me discover coffee and I have since been able to seek out the benefits of great coffee so I decided to start a business where I can share my discovery with everyone.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My story is quite unique like so many first generation immigrants, I have been able to forge ahead in the land of opportunity (USA), which wasn’t easy and there were so many challenges but I was able to persevere through it all. My brand (Kilimanjava) stems from the riches of the African continent and while there are many that have taken advantage of the Motherland, I’m trying to turn the focal point to the wealth She has to offer.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would welcome my best friend into my home. Hosting has always been something that I enjoy and I would show them the hospitality that I would love to enjoy. The welcoming nature that I grew up knowing comes naturally for me.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family have been a major part of my success, I owe everything to them. I also have had the privilege of being mentored by some excellent professors in my secondary school days and throughout my college years.
