We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared McCray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, what role has risk played in your life or career?
With great risk come great rewards. Everything that has come thus far from music has been off of taking risks.
I would rather roll the dice at a chance to win big than to not roll at all.
All the greatest rewards in life lie in the darkness of the unknown.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
That’s exactly how I like to describe the music/beats I make…art. I don’t try to be different, I just be myself and that alone is enough for energy to stand out of the crowd. I’ve always been the different guy in the room. From the way I dress, to the way I talk, to how I make my music.
Getting to this point was definitely not easy. I was all the way homeless (by choice).
Slept in my car behind the studio for a whole year before anybody even knew who I was. I hustled my a*s off everyday. I was the first person in the studio and the last one to leave and that alone set me apart from the crowd. I didn’t come in the game with the best beats or no co sign. I had a great work ethic and great creative skill and built off of that.
I want the world to know that the kid from Mississippi that had no musical background, nobody to show me the ropes, all odds stacked against me, made it to where I am with just being consistent and working hard and hustling. Turned my life/lifestyle into a brand I can share with the world and encourage others from small places to dream big and go even bigger.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I don’t go out much and when I do it’s for business. But if the opportunity was to present itself,
I’d take them to all the best places to eat in Atlanta. All the staple food spots in the A.
Gotta go to the wing spot by Hidden Treasures smoke shop and grab a 10 pc.
Gotta take em to the strip club.
And we def hitting the studio.
That’s really about it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to first and foremost God, I would be nowhere without him and all the blessings he’s bestowed upon me throughout my journey.
My mother and sister who has always supported my dream and my career.
All the homies that have supported me in my come up whether it was just lending a couch for me to sleep on or giving great advice.
Shoutout to Smurfo for plugging me with y’all.
