We had the good fortune of connecting with Keidra Quillin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keidra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was very important for me to to pursue an artistic and creative career because I realized it was inside of me way long before I could ever decide I wanted to pursue it. At this point it comes naturally. I understand that I did not choose to be this artistic being, it chose me. I thank God everyday for the will power to get up everyday knowing why I’m here on earth..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a singer and songwriter. I write and perform R&B and soul music. I believe what sets me apart from other artists is that I’m not writing what people are expecting me to write. I don’t feel the need to explain myself to others in my music; I write based on what I feel is needed to get me through or what the people need to hear. I’m most proud that I just recently traveled to Ghana, Africa with not just someone I’m proud to call my man as our road manager, but with award winning male group Tony Toni Toné. I came back to Oakland and a few months later I  performed at Yoshi’s, one of the most prestigious jazz clubs in Oakland.
So that was a huge accomplishment. I’m plotting on my next excursion..

I got to where I am today by doing it afraid. I’ve always had stage fright and hated when all the attention was just on me, but I was truly inspired by a life coach to do it afraid. It was not easy, but I’m still here.

I’ve learned so many valuable lessons along the way and I understand that more lessons are coming. I also understand that with faith I will overcome everything that’s laid out for me.
I pray a lot so that’s what helps me face all my challenges.

I would love for the world to know that I’m growing everyday and I’m Original til the death of me. oh, and I’ll be dropping more authentic music so please stay tuned.. thank you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was coming in from out of town I’d honestly buy tickets to a comedy show and we’ll go out to eat at one of my favorite taqueria joints, Pakistani or soul food restaurants because I absolutely love food high in spice & lots of flavor. And we’ll just catch up..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to The Most High who gives me strength, confidence and endurance. I’d love to thank my immediate family for believing in me wholeheartedly. I’d love to thank my close close friends for their continued support and everybody that’s watching..
