We had the good fortune of connecting with Deon & Shun Mayes & Goins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deon & Shun, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We wanted to make a change in the world. Yes we are a clothing brand but we are a movement. We want to give back to our community. Doing that we want to one day provide opportunities to individuals or groups of people to put their name out into the world. Whether it’s through sports, acting, music, or arts. We need the youth, and some adults, to chase a dream or to be out of a comfort zone so they can show their light to the world. Everyone doesn’t get a opportunity so we want to be that change.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes us different is that we set out to create that brotherhood/sisterhood with our community. We seek unity. We dream of everyone uplifting one another and not feel like they have to overstep someone to build themselves. We bring unity to the table. To be the connectors for everyone seeking a helping hand.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shun Goins: Well in my experience i just want to shout out the black community of Troy university because they have done nothing but give us support and love.
Deon Mayes: Its many people that I would love to thanks, but as a whole I would just love to give a thanks to my mother for working hard to get us out of an environment to put me in the position to find out that it’s more out in the world than what I was used to. And that there was alot of hidden talent as well
