We had the good fortune of connecting with Frilancy Hoyle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Frilancy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to provide a local source that offered sustainable clothing but with the mindset of keeping to quality. Not a cookie cutter selection that doesn’t cater to women whom have curves and character.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business began as a simple idea. I have always had a dream to own my own store. Fashion is why I wake up and stay inspired. It is my passion, my calling. At an early age I always found it therapeutic to put pieces together to create a stunning wardrobe.

Rabecca Onassis Boutique has set a standard here in Seattle, we provide a environment of quality. Our mission is to give a place to those who need to feel confident in how they dress. I always say, “dress how you want to be addressed”. It was a lot of research to get to where we are today.

We had to hunt for the right spot for our first brick and mortar. We had to figure out what exactly would sell to people in this area. We overcame these challenges with a lot of data and studying our insights. And we used all of our own personal finances to assure we sustained a global pandemic.

The one thing I would love the world and those seeking to become a small business owner is, it takes work. Not everyday is good. Some days you want to shut down and seek another career. You will get denial letters. we personally have been denied every loan ever applied for from every major bank nationwide. We continue to be denied for every black owned program and grant we have ever applied for.

We don’t get the help like our neighbors. You must be vigilant and strategic. There is avenues to thrive. But it takes an active mindset and a relentlessness deeply embedded into your work ethics,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places. I would take them first to Pike Place Public Market. It is the most iconic spot in Seattle. Hence the reason we put our store in this area. After this I would venture over to some sailing around South Lake Union. There is a lot of water surrounding our beautiful city. Seattle waterfront is blessed with Elliot bay and we have an entire sound that connects so many other cities by the largest ferry system in North America.

For food I can list so many, Umi Sake is one of my absolute favorite sushi spots. I enjoy a great rooftop cocktail at The Nest atop The Thompson Hotel nearby. Places like Metropolitan Grill, The Pink Door, and many concerts always happening at our many arenas. We are blessed to have a great Football team; Seahawks. The Lumen field is one for the records. Our Seattle Mariners always put on a hit at T Mobile Park, and newly added arena Climate Pledge is a riot with out newest addition to Seattle, Hockey! The Kraken are amazing. So many vantage points and tourist activities around the city. It wall depends on the time of traveling and the season.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like thank my Grandmother for always having a great sense of style and truly showing up in areas where it was important. I named my store after my Grandma Rabecca Onassis and my sister Rabbecca, a little different spelling. But they both have had the same impact to just LIVE life to its fullest without reservations.

I want to also give a huge shoutout to my brother Kay for always working hard and being a strong force in my life. He is so smart and loving. My Mom for always sharing my journey. Lastly, I would like to give my husband Michael the most appreciative mentions. Without his love and support throughout this entire journey it might not have happened the way it materialized today. We are a spectacular team. I am blessed to have someone whom has never second guessed my ambitions and or minimized my dreams. He is my biggest fan.
