We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risks are absolutely necessary. Without risks there would be no reward. The feeling of knowing you overcame fear to take leap of faith, reaping the success of that choice, it’s a feeling I cant describe. Imagine staying in your “safe zone” your whole ENTIRE life, you’re restricting yourself from so many opportunities. I left my 9-5 and took a risk on going into business for myself. If I had stayed in my safe zone, sure I would probably have been promoted by now, but that wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to measure my successes strictly off of the work and energy I put into myself, into my pay. I was tired of no matter how little or how much I worked, my bi-weekly check never changed. I was trapped in a glass box. I was hitting numbers for my company all to make someone else rich, it was time to invest in myself!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So, I am a Realtor® here in Atlanta, GA covering the Atlanta area itself and it’s surrounding cities. In a market that many think is over saturated, I am beyond excited to share my services because I know what I offer isn’t common. Most real estate agents get into the game because they saw another agent share a commission check and thought “sheesh, that’s what I need to do for a living, looks so easy”. WRONG! Granted, the checks can be lucrative, but it takes WORK. It takes long days combined with sleepless nights to really dedicate yourself to your clients. If you look at a client as a transaction you’re in this field for all the wrong reasons. I want to give each and every single client a personalized, family- like experience to where our relationship doesn’t end it ‘close’, it just begins. This is why I chose to give real estate 110% of my life and become a full time agent. When you call my number you get ME 24/7. My clients know I will type up an offer an 1am, because in this market you need to! I really want to specialize in client education, there are so many buyers who are afraid to take the leap into home ownership because they think it’s not possible. I am here to tell you it is possible and I want to walk you through how to attain homeownership.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have friends/ family visit me here in Atlanta I love to take them to the Botanical Garden at Piedmont Park. The botanical garden is perfect to go for a walk in nature surrounded by all of the beautiful structures they built. Around Christmas time they have spiked hot cocoa and the lights everywhere are so pretty and peaceful. Before or after we’ll go to eat at OSHA Thai Restaurant for not only their delicious food but their beautifully presented and delicious specialty cocktails. Some of my favorite hangout spots are really anywhere with a view, I love a good rooftop bar or a restaurant overlooking water!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to thank God first and foremost, through God all things are possible. On my best day I thank him, on my worse day, I thank him. The person most near and dear to my heart who I can give recognition to is my late grandmother, Sylvia Walker. She poured so much love and determination into me growing up. She never gave up on me. She was the only person who celebrated all of my victories no matter how big or how small. Having someone in your life who can give you those things is truly a blessing. Lastly to my baby girl, Kailyn. You are and will always be mommy’s motivation to keep pushing.
