We had the good fortune of connecting with Tes Sobomehin Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tes, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I enjoyed going out to race events every weekend and thought to myself “I could put on a fun race that would be welcoming to all types of runners and walkers”. I didn’t think of it as a business at first, but simply a fun side hobby.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am proud to be a running community leader and Race Director. It is rare to find a Black female Race Director and I am honored to be in this space and pave the way for those that may want to follow suit. I am most proud of the events that I have produced that have inspired people of all races, creeds, paces, and speeds to move forward with a purpose. When I started to really think of Race Directing as a profession and runningnerds, LLC as a buisness and not just a hobby, everything really took flight. It has not be easy, but I continue to stay motivated by people enjoying and supporting events. I have learned that no every idea is a good idea, and that people will support what they are passionate about. I am extremely proud of how we stayed active, connected, and positive through the 2020/2021 phase of our lives. I am extremely excited for 2022 and beyond.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any space and activation along the Atlanta Beltline offers so many great options for entertainment, outdoors, and family friend fun. We have some of the best breweries, restaurants, and parks in the nation and I would assure that my friend had a chance to enjoy those spaces. West Midtown and Poncey Highlands are some of my favorite areas in the city to explore.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to each and every human that has ever supported a runningnerds event since 2012.
