We had the good fortune of connecting with Maia Lor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maia, what do you attribute your success to?
Discipline because without putting your dreams into action, they remain dreams. Take accountability that if you don’t work on your dreams, nobody will ever see them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am passionate about telling stories through my photos and mini videos, which I have been doing for over ten years. Through my journey of creative expression, I have enjoyed capturing art and documenting the stories of others. No matter how long it’s been, I’m still genuinely excited about what I do. It’s about leaving a mark and a legacy for the next generation to be inspired by.

Perhaps it’s because I didn’t have pictures or memorabilia from my ancestors for the reason that my parents lived in a Third World Country and lost most of their belongings jumping camp to camp during the Vietnam war.

I got to where I am today because of perseverance and the people I surround myself with. Furthermore, it definitely wasn’t easy getting out there and I’m still learning every single day. I overcame the challenges by changing my mindset and accepting that this going to be a long road. That included reaching out to people, learning marketing, business education, and so much more. I’ve learned running a creative business means you have to learn the admin work too. It’s a balance between being creative and knowing about taxes. Most important of all, it’s about knowing your worth because nobody is going to see you the way you see you.

This is why my business “Lens This Beauty Photography” was created to remind others to be confident in their beauty –– inside and out. Also, to remind me of my own because I struggled with seeing beauty in myself for the longest time. We all see the world through different lenses, and there’s beauty in that within itself. I capture music, entertainment, creatives, portraits, surreal photography, brands, and graphic design.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While I’m still fresh in Atlanta, I have found a few great places I would take them. Because I am a flexitarian, I would take them Papi’s Cuban restaurant in Marietta on the first day for they have some options for vegan, then for dessert go to Frozen Cow Creamy in Kennesaw for the dairy-free and sugar-free options. If you want to have a little cheat day, there’s Duck Doughnuts nearby. During the week, I would take them to brunch at Highland Bakery, Thumbs Up, and Flying Biscuit. Later for dinner or lunch, there’s always a cracker barrel, but there’s also the Slutty Vegan Burgers. I would take them to the Atlanta Zoo and Aquarium and find a day where we just stay in and rest up. Because let’s be honest, going out every day can take a lot of energy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
