We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’m an artist, for me just being able to create is therapeutic. It’s the way I express myself. There’s things I don’t know how to speak on or feel comfortable speaking to someone about I can put into a song so I can get out all my thoughts and feelings without there being anyone there to judge, give their opinion, or dismiss my feelings. I read once “music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul” and I couldn’t agree more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a hip hop recording artist from New Orleans, LA however I am now in Atlanta, GA. I go by the name Braveaux. I think what sets me apart is my sound. I create music based on how I see things as well as what I want to see out in the world. I’m still not where I want to be professionally as of yet however I am on my way. It’s been a long journey, lots roadblocks but consistency is biggest key. Once I started being consistent with what I’m doing, things started happening and people began taking notice. I have my own record label “Disrespectful Culture” which many see the word disrespectful and think negatively but I want people to know my brand is about being unapologetically you, in every room you walk into, whatever that looks like. You have to stop trying to be the next whoever and be the first you, and when you have that attitude some will say it’s disrespectful. I feel if that’s disrespectful then I’ll be that because I refuse to tone me down to fit anyones views of what respectful is.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly I’m some what of a studio rat so I don’t go too many places but I’d have to take them to the Beltline, Ponce City Market and Lil 5 Points. I’m also a foodie so we’d have to get food from Chef Rob, Slutty Vegan, Slim & Husky, American Deli is always a go to for some wings, or Fork in the Road. We’d also have go to Bonfire because that’s just all around a good chill kick it kinda vibe, I also like Door54.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s lots of people who helped me either directly or indirectly in getting me where I am. However I would say my parents are a big part because of their work ethic which as rubbed off on me. Not only has their work ethic shown me you have to get up and hustle for what you want but their guidance and support plays a key factor in my success.
