We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Rosenstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to be my own boss. Growing up I watched my mom start two booming businesses which definitely pushed me to do the same. I saw that it wasn’t always going to be easy or glamorous, but that’s the reality of being your own boss that you don’t always get to see on social media.
I’ve had a love for makeup and making others feel beautiful and confident for as long as I can remember, so becoming a professional MUA was an easy career choice for me to make. In high school and for some of college I went back in forth with the idea of working for a company like MAC or Morphe, but ultimately I needed an environment and ability to hone my craft on my own time. Being able to create my own schedule, work for myself and create what I want when I want to is so freeing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a makeup artist has been my dream for as long as I can remember. What started out in my childhood bedroom as a way to express myself creatively has turned into what I believe is the most fun career.
The past four years I have almost exclusively worked on weddings and special events. There is nothing like the wedding day! Think love and joy and celebration – it’s an addicting work environment for sure! Being able to make a bride feel her most beautiful on a day she’s been dreaming of all of her life is one of my favorite feelings.
While I love my brides and my go-to natural glam looks, I also crave working outside of the box. I have always loved movies and knew someday I would be part of making movie magic. I am fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to study with the Georgia Film Academy which has opened so many doors for me in the entertainment industry. My biggest goal is to work for Marvel, so here’s to manifesting that for 2022!
I place most of my success in learning from my failures. It might sound crazy, but I love to fail! It allows me to try new things and go outside of my comfort zone without the pressure to be perfect. Sara Blakey once said that her failures helped shape the business woman and person that she is today, and if this mindset works for her it can work for me too!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has always been my home and I love showing people around! From our food to our culture, there’s nothing quite like the A.
Some of my favorite food spots are in town, starting with Ruby Chow’s. This hidden Asian dining gem is perfect with its small plates that pack a big flavor punch. Also have to shout out Grana. Tiktok might have you thinking that it’s over hyped, but the happy hour menu is amazing!
I love being outside in our city in the forest. My friends and I love taking a walk around Piedmont Park and grabbing drinks at Park Tavern after. Fetch Park is also a fun hang out spot for pet parents. The Beltline is also the perfect way to spend a day off. You can see the best of the city while stopping at breweries, restaurants and shops.
The culture of this city is iconic. You can see it best in our loyal sports teams fans, in the art on Krog Street tunnel, in our historic sites like Dr. King’s home and at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Don’t forget Mary Mac’s Tearoom for the best southern comfort food, Tyler Perry’s legendary film studios and The High Museum. There is always something going on here!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many incredible mentors and people who have supported my business and my dreams for years! Specifically my on-site hair and makeup team, Make Me Up GA. Make Me Up is owned and run by Ariana Chedgy who I am so blessed to be able to call my mentor, boss and friend. She has shown me that you really can have it all: success in family, business and life. And to all of my clients past, present and future – thank you for allowing me to make you feel your most beautiful self!
