We had the good fortune of connecting with Rasheeda Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rasheeda, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Outsiders of the fashion industry simply see designers as creators. What they feel to realize is that there is not only an art but a science to fashion. You have to exercise your left and right brain throughout the process. Measuring, weighing, precise cutting, Strategic planning, fabric manipulation, techniques and the proper use of textiles are all scientific methods. The creative process of appeal, emotional, functional and artistic wear Falls under the umbrella of art.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others is that I am able to create a story with your wardrobe. I am able to convey your desire to look which reflects The person you are or want to be. I pride myself and wearable art. I’ll begin this journey in fashion at the age of six. My grandmother tailored clothing for a living. She ran her business out of her home. I sketched dresses day in and day out. As soon as I was able to sew, I brought the sketches to life. After owning my undergraduate and marketing I excepted a store manager position in retail. I was able to learn how to run a retail fashion business through hands-on experience.
Leaving corporate America was not an easy decision, with two kids. I could not get a bank loan to start my business so I had to find unconventional ways to raise money. I started selling my designs in preestablished retail locations which gain me notary while I raised capital.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is “your vision is your own”. Excepting unsolicited advice , allowing Other’s failures to become yours, and excepting “no” as a end all Are not options.
My brand embraces the beauty of the southern lifestyle.
Design Label: La Belle et le Sud ( meaning The Beautiful and the Southern) I give grace, romance, pride, and emotion.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely loved Château Élan. The campus is exquisite, the history is rich, the food and wine was an absolute experience. I enjoy going to Fellaship Cigar Lounge. The vibe is upbeat and the food is amazing.
I also enjoyed going to the Botanical Gardens. The host themed nights for intimate settings and girlfriend getaways.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The women in my family throughout the generation have pride themselves on both their inner beauty and outer. My grandmother would always tell us “never leave home looking like no one loves you“. That saying throughout my childhood included how I carried myself, how about treated other people, and how I chose to represent myself. I dedicate my efforts to all of those women…
