We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’ve been thinking more about work life balance lately as it has been extremely difficult lately. I realize that I missed some moments that are very important to the people around me but still expect the same support from them. I realize that a life without balance however is a very lonely one, so take all the time you need. When you’re the boss you decide when you have had enough. Don’t miss the important moments, work will always be there; family and friends may not.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a film director and a show creator based in Atlanta Georgia. I am at the height of my independent career or at least I think so. I got to where I am professionally today with a lot of hard work, a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of prayer and consistency. People think that being an entrepreneur it’s just about the glitz and glam but it is far from it. Nothing that I have acquired up until this point has been easy and I have never been afraid of hard work. There are many days that I have honestly wanted to quit working and found, I have wanted to quit writing scripts, and I have a wanted to give back the life of entertainment as it has become very overwhelming at times. I have really been able to get pass any obstacle thanks to supporting friends and family who have pushed me to the next level of my career. One of the lessons that I have learned is, everyone is not going to support you, everyone is not going to believe in you, but most of all you have to believe in yourself. Some of the greatest lessons that I have learned along the way I am include self care, mental health, consistency, and always creating. And what I would like the world to know about me is that I don’t stop, I don’t back down, and I don’t take no if there’s something that I truly believe in. Don’t be afraid to go after what you want and don’t think that you don’t deserve it because you do!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am all about something so this question of course is one of my favorite. I think, I’m not really a socialite but when I do get out I am ready for a good time. Some of my favorite places to go in Atlanta are Cirque daiquiri bar and grill: Which I am now the creator of their new reality series that will be appearing on ICTV called “The CirQus”. They have great food, drinks and great music. I would also take my friends to brunch at Boogalou lounge which is one of our favorite brunch spots. All of my friends know that I love chicken, so of course we would go to Harold’s chicken on Edgewood. They have extremely affordable drinks and the chicken and seafood is amazing! I absolutely love Poor Calvin’s they have great brunch & Sangrias. I mentioned all of my favorite eating spots but I also enjoy doing hookah from time to time so I would take my friends to Sivas they have great hookah or BQE they have great food also. On Sundays I am enjoying all of the spots near Piedmont Park for refreshing drinks and Sunday brunch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to so many but I would like give credit to Robert Roundtree. He’s a film producer based in Atlanta who has taken a chance on me. He works endlessly and effortlessly to make sure the team is in place. When moving to Atlanta, a friend told me he was looking for black writers to make films with. We met and honestly, I wasn’t really interested because of all the previous failed meetings. He turned out to be one of the greatest assets to my life and my time. So thank you for allowing me to act completely insensitive, insane, intolerable, and be a complete nut about my passion but ridding with me all the way. Thank you.
