We had the good fortune of connecting with Cami Stafford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cami, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my business really started with Tiktok. I had some of my followers message me asking me to do their makeup for maternity pictures, photoshoots, etc. I was honestly shocked I could make money doing something I loved. I spent months trying to decide if this was something I should chase after. I was very scared to fail, but after talking with other business owners, I decide to chase after it. It got busy faster than I expected so I decided to make it official by starting business social medias, getting my LLC, starting a website, & building my kit. I had expected it to be a part time job I did every now and then, but it very quickly became my full time job I was doing every weekend & throughout the week.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Bridal and Event hair and makeup artist. I do hair and makeup for weddings, boudoir shoots, styled shoots, engagement photos, etc. I also do creative make up. I love to play with colors, graphic liners, & glitters! I have been featured on Lorac pro‘s website, and was in a makeup competition for creative makeup where I made it through 4 rounds. I’m super proud of my growth, & eagerness to keep learning new techniques and skills. I believe I got to where I am today because not only am I good at what I do, but I’m very personable. My clients will tell you, when I do their hair and makeup we have very good conversation. I tend to always leave an appointment with a new friend. I stayed consistent in learning, participating in styled shoots, and consistent with content to get my name out there. I love working with other photographers, hair and make up artist, & Florists to make new connections. It wasn’t always easy to stay motivated and not give up. I just kept pushing and working to get where I wanted to be. I knew if I put my all into my work I could not fail. I’ve learned to put myself out there and not hold back. I’ve learned to stand my ground and that it’s okay to tell people no! That was a huge lesson I had to learn. I used to always say yes to please other people even if it had a negative impact on me. I want the world to know that Glam By Cam LLC is more than JUST another bridal hair and makeup artist company, we’re a friend, a listening ear, a support system, & HMUA’s. I pride myself in being able to make connections with my clients and also achieving the hair and makeup look they desire.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d definitely have to go to Ponce City Market & grab lunch there. We’d shop around because I’m a bit of a shoppoholic. We’d go stay the night at The W Hotel. The next day we’d go to Atlantic station and watch a movie and do more shopping. We’d eat dinner at Hob Nob Tavern.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I first started my business journey I took some life coaching. My life coach, Sherina owner of Sherina Today encouraged me, gave me business advice, and was a great support system.
Another person that has always supported me and encouraged me is Savannah Ellis owner of Lotus & Lace Boudoir Studio. I am one of her HMUA’s for her sessions but she’s always encouraging me, supporting me, and became a very close friend.
Cyerra Farrister helped me to build my kit by recommending products, storage, and sending me clients.
Haley Mcelwaney helped me by giving me business advice, site building advice, and product recommendations.
