We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianne Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianne, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my career has taught me is that people are needed . My career would be nothing without relationships. Every relationship that I have encountered has been instrumental in my growth as an individual and in my business. Learning from a book is great, but what is even more influential, is listening to others life experiences. As a beauty professional I depend on people to fill my chair which in turn allows creativity. People are the motivation for every business that I’ve created. People are the “why” I do what I do.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a licensed cosmetologist of 25 years specializing in color. But my proudest accomplishment is the birth of A PIECE OF MINT Hair care line. It was not easy starting out with very little and turning it into something major. I had very small capital to start but now we’ve shipped to all 50 states since the pandemic. I lost months worth of “behind the chair”revenue but scaled triple in product sales during quarantine. The Biggest lesson that I’ve learned is that life is full of transition and must learn how to pivot.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wichita is filled with great places to eat and creative things to do. I personally love live music so Vorshays Cocktail lounge is a great place to unwind with a great drink. I love sushi and frequent Hanahs café for the best variety of sushi cuisine. Therapeutic concepts is a great spa to grab a massage and relax by Tempress Calhoun, One of the best masseuses in Wichita. If you need a little more pampering, Chessica Ponds at Grit and Gloss gives the best pedicures around town. And lastly, I absolutely love the summer rolls from Pho Special!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m thankful to God for giving me the gift of creativity and I’m always thankful for two great parents who support all of my endeavors. They are both truly my first mentors in life. My two wonderful children who have often helped mom out with labeling and packaging products. And all of my wonderful customers that patronize A PIECE OF MINT™.
