We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jimmy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The single most important factor to my personal, professional and financial success, as well as Georgia Trial Attorneys’ success is the adoption and cultivation of an entrepreneur’s mindset. So often we see, know and love people who are “interested” in success. But they are only willing to do what is convenient. Yet an entrepreneur is committed to doing whatever it takes – especially the things that no one else is willing to do.

From understanding that failure is an option and embracing the opportunities that failure may bring to running my law firm based on objective metrics rather than gut and feel to accepting that most business problems are personal problems that we bring into our business… There is so much personal development that needs to take place before a business can really begin to thrive and function in the absence or direct supervision of the owner.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Georgia Trial Attorneys, we are a personal injury attorneys who repair shattered lives and maximize recovery. We represent injured victims across the State of Georgia who are being opposed by the greed of billion dollar a year insurance corporations. The words of Dr. Martin Luther King ring true throughout our business and law firm: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” And the injustice brought about my these greedy insurance companies stops when a client hires Georgia Trial Attorneys.

Additionally, we are The Lawyer’s Lawyers. Other law firms across the southeast come to us with their difficult cases that need to go to litigation. So in addition to representing all of our clients from start to finish through the personal injury process, we help other law firms do the same.

One of the main factors that sets us apart from other law firms and specifically other personal injury law firms, is that Mark and I are business men first and attorneys second. We run a business that just so happens to practice law. And this is a very important distinction to many other law firms and personal injury law firms out there. So often, lawyers and attorneys focus of the practice of the law first and neglect the business side of things. While you may have the best legal mind on the planet, if you aren’t running your business based upon a business plan with specific and objective metrics, then you will likely make mistakes. And some mistakes in the law, you cannot come back from. So it is so important to hire a law firm that is business focused first. That way you know that the office is operating based on written policies and procedures, the staff have key performance indicators measuring their performance and the metrics of the firm are not in such a place that would lead the attorneys or owners to make bad decisions.

Nothing about where we’ve come from and where we are going has been or will be easy. At each stage of growth, there are new problems and opportunities. However, as you grow in size and revenue, those problems do become easier.

We found a niche in obtaining exceptional results through litigating our own and other law firms’ personal injury cases has put us in a league of our own. So for other entrepreneurs and attorneys out there, I would suggest that you master a skill of something that others are not willing to do and then monetize that niche skillset.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is no end of fun and entertainment in Atlanta. But my focus is not on the location but the person I am spending time with. Whether it is my wife, my family, a close friend, a colleague or a new acquittance, you first need to understand them before you build out an itinerary in Atlanta. ‘

But if I had it my way, on the food side of things, we would hit some of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta (note that I did not say most famous or best) ranging from:

Then I would top things off with a visit to Bobby Dodd Stadium at Grant Field for a Georgia Tech football game. Go Jackets!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There likely isn’t enough time or text space for me to adequately express my gratitude and joy to all of those who have helped me develop into the man that I am today. It wasn’t long ago that I founded Georgia Trial Attorneys in January of 2015, with my plan, no clients, no systems… nothing. And now to have a business that is beginning to function at a high and repeatable level without my direct interaction and involvement is nothing short of amazing, in my opinion. First, I would have to thank my God for blessing me with the skills, opportunities and experiences to become the man I am today.
Second, I cannot thank my wife enough for being there from the very beginning. If it wasn’t for her support, encouragement and advice, I do not believe I would be in the position I am today.
Finally, I could go on and on talking about my kids, my family, my church family, my friends, my business coaches… the list goes on and on. All I can do is simply say thank you and through my actions pay it all forward.
