We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Cotton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I think that regardless of the amount of income it brings in only giving 100 percent to the path I’m most passionate about was the single most important thing. For example outside of a makeup artist I was a hairstylist as well. My clientele for hair was almost 5 times greater than my makeup clientele. Hair for sure was my main bread winner, however it was not my passion and it took up the majority of the time and energy I should’ve been using to focus on makeup. I had to make a clear plan for makeup and fully commit to it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My personal appearance has been important to me since I was a toddler.. I was never shy when it came to a mirror so I feel it’s no coincidence that enhancing the beauty of others became my calling. I specialize in natural glam makeup. I personally love elevating your skin while still keeping the makeup minimal. I’ve been referring to my style as the “no makeup” makeup look. I’m most proud and excited about branching off on my own as a freelance artist and launching my first products EverythingCottonBall cosmetics later this year. The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to have tunnel vision. Everyone has a different path so it’s important to stay focused on your path and what’s in front of you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to eat is for sure at The Cheetah. The fried chicken from cheetah is unmatched, and the drinks are always strong so we would definitely have to head there. There’s plenty to do in west midtown the interlock, as well as prince city market are hip spots with good food and entertainment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I always want to shoutout God, my family, and my friends! They are truly my support system and I couldn’t have done anything without them.
