We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Dovnik and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have always been a risk taker, One of the biggest I’ve taken was packing my bags, moving 1,000 miles away, and without knowing anyone in the state of Georgia, I went to film school. That among many other calculated risks have always been worth the reward. This has led me to start my own production company, Rutilant Productions, with a couple friends of mine from film school. Is starting a production company during a pandemic while the film industry is shut down a risk? Yes. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our films are exploring and paving the way of vertical filmmaking. We were inspired watching Damien Chazelle’s recent work, “Vertical Cinema”. We all admire his directing and are excited to see where new technology will transform cinema as we know it, We are exciting to take advantage of booming platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to share these vertical short films in a new creative video medium. I believe this Pandemic will inspire a renaissance, and vertical cinema might just be it. We want people to know that we hope this new form of creative expression will inspire others and bring people closer together, virtually of course. TikTok has already broken so many barriers and is inspiring an entire generation of creatives. We want to be a part of this supportive community of artists. Being trailblazers of vertical filmmaking, we will be faced with new challenges, but we are up for the adventure in this ever-changing world we currently live in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve had the honor of giving some Midwesterners a grand tour of the city and have a couple favorite spots I like to take them. Starting out, Ponce City Market is filled with options from local restaurants and vendors. You can’t go wrong! Mary Mac’s Tearoom has the best Souther comfort food. I also like places like GrindHouse and the Flying Biscuit because they have delicious vegan options for me, and yummy choices for the meat eaters, For fun, I like to wander around Little Five Points, listen to some of my friend’s bands play at The Masquerade, and go to the High Museum of Art.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my Co-Founders Alex Chiang and Brayden Montgomery for being an inspiring and supportive crew.
