We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquis Speight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquis, what inspires you?

I am inspired by my love for God, music and seeing people lifted from despair. I was raised from a rich lineage of music ministry and creatives. As a little girl, I watched my grandmother, grandfather, mom and uncles prepare by rehearsing and meditation through prayer or studying then go into rather stiff atmospheres, and spiritually connect with people and use their God given gift to lift and shift atmospheres. It was soul stirring and deep within I take knew out too had the desire to be a vessel. This has lead to Jacquis Speight Ministries which includes ministry through song and word, motivational speaking and an active worship leader, co author, and recording artist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am confident that I am nothing without Gift Giver, My Creator, My God. The last few years have been difficult for so many, but what gives me hope and makes me excited is there is an escape in God’s presence by way of worship that not only is a release but it’s a refilling of undeniable strength to keep the faith and hang on in there. I released a song in 2020 right in the middle of the pandemic “Worship is My Sanity.” I developed a very strong level of anxiety during the very beginning of the pandemic. I’m sure many others can relate. I became obsessive and unable to function property in every day life. The only thing that calmed me was worship music. His presence lifted me when nothing else could help and it stabilized me enough to ask for help. I am a huge mental health advocate and support counseling in addition to relationship with God.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Perfect Note has become one of my favorite locations. It’s a restaurant with live entertainment and I actually will be performing my second live show there in March. Uptown is very nice. If I had to suggest a very nice restaurant, Perry’s Steakhouse would be at the top of my list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My support system is impeccable. My husband’s support, push, ability to stretch my vision, and belief in me has played a huge part in my now. My son is my motivation every day but especially on days I even attempt to second guess my purpose; he’s a reminder of the legacy we’re creating. My amazing mother was my example, teacher and inspiration. Daily I strive to make her proud even in her absence. My sister and father have sowed, spoken word of encouragement and put action behind their words. I am better because of them. My God mother is my voice of reason. When I tend to want to respond emotionally, her wisdom redirects my energy. When I feel hopeless, she reminds me how I’ve overcome time and time with God on my side.
