We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Talley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always wanted to start something from scratch and present it for others to appreciate. Whether it’s drawing or creating music, I would seek criticism from other in order to grow. Soon art would became an outlet of mine whenever I didn’t know how to speak on issues. Creating something the represents how I feel is way easier than speaking on it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I just like the concept of making something for other people to interpret. It’s very exciting hearing the final product of music after putting so much time into it. Actually seeing a vision and putting everything in the right places. This journey started when a group of my friends invited me to a home studio. We made our first song and from there I was hooked. Starting out definitely wasn’t easy, even now I struggle sometimes to think of something new. The possibilities never end when you’re a creator and that’s what makes what I do exciting. Even if I don’t become the next “big thing”, I can live peacefully knowing that I’m doing something I love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would take my friend to a place called “Big Air”. It’s a trampoline park on the westside near “West Gate Mall”. I would probably take them there next because they have pretty good shoe stores in there. Afterwards we would visit downtown Spartanburg and get drinks at the “Fig”. It’s a bar I like to visit every now and then when I feel like getting out the house. Depending on the friend that comes to visit, I would take him to the skatepark downtown for a few hours.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my friends in Spartanburg, South Carolina that got me inspired to pursue art. Also to my friends in Atlanta, Georgia for helping me perfect that craft.
