We had the good fortune of connecting with Tameka Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tameka, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is continuing to work on myself daily. When thinking about myself as a parent I always think in terms of a cup. Whatever is in the cup is what I am pouring into my children. So I ask myself daily, what do I want them to receive from me? Kindness? Courage? Self-love? Confidence? And I believe this has made the greatest impact on my children and everyone else around me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of being able to serve parents all over the world. I can truly say I am an international business because I have clients as far as Australia and other countries that I cannot even pronounce who found my podcast and purchase everything I offer. That’s a huge accomplishment and one that I don’t take lightly. It has not been an easy road for sure. I had to learn what it is that I actually do in order to articulate that to my potential clients. That meant I had to dig deep and learn more about myself. Most people don’t realize that a business is an extension of the founder. So when I got more clear on me, things became easier for sure. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to not stop. If something doesn’t work, it’s okay to use it as a lesson of what not to do next time. Then move forward quicker. Also, be mindful of the company you keep. I had a year in business where I was trying to save people (stemming from my own personal insecurities) and because they didn’t want that, when things went sour, they tried to destroy my business. Literally. I would love the world to know that my brand comes from my story. I was a child who suffered through great trauma and as a result, I had behavioral challenges. So I can understand immediately what message challenging behavior is sharing and help parents. Because I am helping them solve a valuable problem, parents talk about my results all the time to their friends and family. And that is the power of a great story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Due to COVID-19, places to go have become more challenging however if my best friend were coming into town I would take her to visit the new Civil Rights Museum. It’s amazing and I am proud that it’s in my city. Then of course we love to eat so we would grab some Harold’s Chicken because its a place that originated in my hometown (Chicago) and she’s never tried it so, yeah. We would also head to Piedmont Park to take a walk and dance because we love dancing and we have to be creative with the changing of the times now. Then we may end the weekend just hanging out at Centennial Park and having a light little picnic. We would bring books because sometimes we just don’t need to talk. We want to hear ourselves reading the words on the page. And I believe that would make the best weekend especially during a pandemic.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my support system. Starting with my best friend. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have a business. She believed in me when I didn’t see what was in me. So of course she gets the first shout. Then there are my children. They have been so supportive throughout this journey whether it’s been helping me creating flyers, walking around in the hot sun to talk to parents, helping with my summer camp or just allowing me to cry when something didn’t work. They have seen it all. So, yeah, they rock as well. And finally all of my other close friends and network of support. It takes a village to raise a business. LOL
