We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, how do you think about risk?
I think risk taking is not for the faint at heart! It takes a bold, confident and a do whatever it takes kind of person to take the risk to step out and walk in faith.
It’s not comfortable and if it was it wouldn’t be a risk. In order to grow and excel to your next level in life and business you’re going to have to take push and be willing to risk it all.
Being a troubled teenage, I missed the opportunity to graduate with my class and instead I took another path. A path that would change my life but in the moment it felt like the end.. I was embarrassed of the decisions I made during my high school years.
Taking the risk for me started with obtaining my GED and enlisting in the Military there after. It has been and always will be one of the most pivotal moments and moves in my life.
When I look back at my life in 2006, I would have never imagined that I would be the CEO of two incredibly amazing profitable businesses. I used my Military experiences to further my education and I obtained my Bachelors and my MBA in Business Admin/Human Resource Management.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JAMM Resources LLC is a virtual assistant agency that specializes in remote general admin services. We take pride in helping female entrepreneurs manage the back end of their business so they can show up in a greater capacity for their clients. What sets JAMM apart is the way we over deliver! We always go over and beyond the call of duty for our clients and they see the benefit of having a virtual assistant, immediately. We pride ourselves in always being personal, polite, and professional. The character traits I learned while in the Military has a high impact on how I run JAMM today.
JAMM operates in excellence and integrity all day, everyday, I give the military kudos for assisting in bringing out the best in me.
Our clients trust that once they hand over their tasks/projects that JAMM is going to handle everything in a professional, precise and productive manner. Our clients come first!!
Becoming an entrepreneur after leaving the military was difficult for me. For all my Military buddies reading you know that we were always told who, what, when, where, and how. We did not have to guess what to do, because the SOP was already laid out for us. Being an entrepreneur, I am my own SOP! I have to rely on myself everyday to create the growth plan for my business and to create new strategies to continue to move forward. Was it easy? Not at all, but it’s so rewarding.
The way I overcame this obstacle was simple. I record and still record my process and I turned them into mini SOPs. A complete mindset shift had to take place within me. I released the limits that forced me to think small and NOW… well keep watching JAMM…
That’s where my second business, Ashley N. Jackson comes into play. I offer to my fellow Female Veterans assistance in starting E-Businesses & Gain Confidence in Pursuing Entrepreneurship, a risk taking action! I recognize my struggles as a female veteran starting a business and again RISK came into play. So, I feel as if it’s by duty to lead the formation by assisting my veteran sisters with their barrier breakthroughs and together we will march into entrepreneurship!!
I like to think that my “do whatever it takes” attitude got me to where I am today in business. Doing whatever it takes means hiring a mentor, working with a coach, taking courses, reading and investing in myself, putting in the time to research and grow which lead to becoming a John Maxwell Certified Coach and launching my Podcast, The About Face Podcast, and all the other great things to come in 2022!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m in Montgomery, AL, a very historic city as it relates to the Civil Rights Movement.
– I would start of by getting us a nice AIRBNB in Downtown Montgomery, preferably at “The Quarters”
– I would make us reservations at Wind Creek Casino Spa for a nice relaxing day
– I would also make reservations at Leks Thai restaurant, a local favorite and staple in the community.
– During the stay we would do a mini historical tour, all in walking distance from civil rights to confederate from Rosa Parks to Hank Willams, we would get it all in and all just within blocks..
– We would then wind down with a little night life activities, the patio at the Renaissance hotel offers live music featuring local artist and sometimes a star or two.. John Legend has causally song on the patio. .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my family! My family includes my husband Jeremiah, my 2 kiddos, Maddie & Maddox and my mom Cassandra Crosby. I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my mother, Cassandra Crosby, my first mentor. She’s one of the reasons I pursued entrepreneurship, she’s an entrepreneur and that allowed me to see the freedom in walking in my purpose.. She has always believed in me, encouraged me and supported my decisions every step of the way even when my decisions didn’t line up with HER expectations and she never stops pushing me!
