We had the good fortune of connecting with Noiyah Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noiyah, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from New Orleans, La. Growing up, I didn’t really understand a lot of things that was going on around me until I got older. But I can say that I had a fairly descent childhood to say the least. I was always taught to respect my elders and learned that you must work if you want to have certain things because nothing in life is free. I got my first job at 15 years old and worked all through high school. There were circumstances that could’ve caused me to go a different path like some girls I knew but I had something to prove. I was determined to do the opposite of everything people expected from me so I never used those circumstances to be rebellious or do bad things. Honestly, the impact is so real, sometimes I don’t understand it myself and can’t even explain it. My Faith and determination to win is unmatched and I thank God for that because He is responsible for who I am today!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Certified Permanent Makeup Artist/Lash Artist and owner of Eyemixx Lashes & Beauty. At ELB, we offer lash extensions, lash products, lash training, and permanent makeup (combo brows, microblading, ombre’ brows). I believe my personality and the way I value customer satisfaction sets me apart from others. You can provide quality services but that means nothing if you’re not personable with your clients to make them book with you again. Its all about the experience you’re creating for the client when they sit in your chair or lie on your table. I’m currently working on my second business, which is very near and dear to me because the name will be dedicated to my dad who passed away in 2020. I’m excited about what God has in store for me as I continue my journey as an entrepreneur. I’m really proud of making the decision to invest in myself. I pray over my business daily so right now I’m just manifesting growth as I prepare for the next level. Honestly, I had no plans of doing anything in the beauty industry its just something that happened when I tried cluster lashes years ago. Since middle school, I always aspired to be a Registered Nurse in the medical field. The high school I attended was a career academy so I had been learning Nursing as my trade since 10th grade. In college, I spent many years as a Nursing major because I refused to give up. Everyone has a passion and that was mine. After so many challenges I started feeling like maybe God has another plan for me. But I never imagined it would be anything in the beauty industry not to mention a business owner. One day, I let one of my friends do cluster lashes on me and I really liked how they made me look. The next time I got in the mirror and did them myself. Shortly after, I started doing cluster lashes on my friends and family whenever they would ask. So it wasn’t even a hobby for me but I did enjoy doing them. In 2010, I moved to Atlanta and started seeing lash extensions everywhere. I was more intrigued at the fact it was something that wasn’t popular in New Orleans. I had thoughts about becoming a lash tech but kept procrastinating and never acted on it, basically doubting myself. I was so accustomed to working in Corporate America for a paycheck with no flexibility or freedom that I was afraid to leave that safety net. Most of my work experience is in customer service sitting at a desk talking on the phone all day. I grew tired of talking to the same annoying people everyday who never knew their own information. At that point, I realized I wanted to do something different and became extremely frustrated at every little thing, Quitting had been on my mind very heavy but it was just a thought. I rarely act on impulse but one day I went into to work and decided today is my last day. I went home, told my fiancé I quit my job and that I wanted to start lashing. To my surprise he wasn’t upset but encouraged me to go for it and that was the push I needed. So, I signed up for a lash training class and got certified. Once I practiced and got comfortable with lashing I took a microblading training to become a permanent makeup artist for eyebrow enhancement. This journey hasn’t been easy at all and has its struggles on a regular basis. Building a solid clientele has been the biggest challenge but I understand that’s apart of the business. I wanted to give up many times but failure is not an option! Speaking positive affirmations into myself help me to overcome those challenges along with prayer. Its also important to surround yourself with people who genuinely support your business and motivate you to have Faith when you’re not making money or go weeks without booking a client. The main lesson I’ve learned along the way is everyone not going to support you or see your vision. Its unfortunate but these days support seems to be different for everyone so it is what it is. I will continue investing in myself and my business either way it goes. I want the world to know that 2022 is personal, I’m going harder. I’m competing with myself (nobody else). There is a lot of money to be made and there’s enough for all of us to be successful!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would eat at Fade and Facet, The Juicy Crab, Slutty Vegan, Toast on Lenox, Teaz & Tacoz!
We would drink at The Garden Room, Elevation Chophouse & Skybar!
We would visit The Black Hair Experience, Atlanta Botanical Gardens, The Trap Museum, The Escape Room, and FashArt Photowalk!
We would hang out at a nice lounge that has bomb hookah!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, God deserves all the credit for where I am in life because without Him, I am nothing. He is the source of my strength and I believe I am exactly where He wants me to be in this season. There is no doubt about it! I will continue to trust the process and allow everything to manifest according to His timing. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom who is very special to me. She is my best friend, motivation, #1 supporter, prayer warrior and the reason I’m working so hard to grow my business. I got her for the rest of her life so all she has to do is put her feet up!
