We had the good fortune of connecting with Smilez Leone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Smilez, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small city in NC named Elizabeth City. I grew up around music all my life. My family is musically inclined on both my mother and fathers side of the family. I guess that played a big part in my upbringing. Music was therapeutic to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a music artist/songwriter. I believe what sets me from others is you can’t put me in a box. I pride myself on being different. With the backing of my team I grinded to get to where I am today and this is just the beginning. It wasn’t easy I had a lot of ups and downs that I struggled with. I had to tell myself it’s now or never. I was tired of being complacent. Being on this journey has taught me that your journey is for you and you alone. Sometimes everyone can’t come with you because what’s meant for you is solely meant for you to go through. At the end of the day I just want to give the world my story and let it be shown that no matter the circumstance. If you work hard enough anything is possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well In my city you got a place called “Oh Yard Boyz” owned by Christian Gilyard greatest soul food you’d ever want to have in the city. I more so invest my money into small businesses because if we don’t support them who will.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a shout-out to my management team Certified Loyalty Managemnt Group. I also want to give a shout out to my team Lionhearted Music Group. They are my backbone and they definitely keep me motivated.
