We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Rich Dad, Poor Dad. This book changed my mindset. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old, and up until the age of 24 I worked two jobs. I honestly thought that all I had to do was make more money but after reading Rich Dad , Poor Dad , I realized that it’s not about how much money you make , it’s about how much you keep. Wealth is obtainable! Poor people work for money, Rich people have money working for them. The entire book is filled with so many gems. I’m always learning, I often joke that I’m such a nerd but it is true. I increased my knowledge by learning more about assets vs liabilities, investments, taxes, crypto, and real estate.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
True Boss Beauty Co. is a hair company. I’m not a hair stylist ha-ha, I just am obsessed with hair. I’ve been going to the hair salon since I was a little girl. I used to find it therapeutic to go to the hair store, I would go to the hair store and just stay for hours. I’m from a small town called Panama City, Florida, I remember traveling almost 2 hours to Tallahassee just to get my hair done. When Instagram became a thing, I would follow different hair stylists and hair companies. In 2017, I decided I would start my own hair company called Blossom Bundles, but quickly a girl inbox me on social media and stated that it was the name of her company. So, I changed the name to Stylish Bundles and went online and obtained my EIN number. After that I didn’t do anything at all. Fast forward to 2020, I decided to start selling accessories, items that could be found at a beauty store. After having sold out all my items, I incorporated hair. People have always called me Girl Boss Alexxx. So, an idea came to my head, I’m such a boss, I’m true to it; haha and that is how I came up with the name True Boss Beauty Co. Without GOD none of this would have been possible. Determination, hard work, consistency helped me get to where I am today. It hasn’t been easy, I’ve cried, at one point I was just going to give up. Of course, I thought all I had to do was make a post about selling hair and that people would just buy it. A few people purchased it. I made $1000 quickly, I’m like okay this is cool. But I quickly learned that I wasn’t the only one selling hair and that I needed to put the money back in my business. Additionally, I should have branded my hair company first. I had to learn to treat it like a business, not just a side hustle. I learned about business credit, doing my taxes monthly, obtaining different licenses. I also learned that I’m not about to just make money sitting in the house behind a computer. Word of mouth is bigger than social media, I had to get out and tell people about my business. I started going to pop up shops, networking with strangers, giving out my business cards wherever I went. I had no idea about marketing or that I couldn’t just make a post. True Boss Beauty Co is a hair company where hair is first class. We take pride in providing our customers with high quality products and luxury hair.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Everybody loves to hit me up when they visit Atlanta. . For breakfast or brunch, we would have to go to Atlanta Breakfast Club, Breakfast at Barneys or Thumbs Up Diner. For lunch, we would have to go to JJ’s Chicken and Fish. LOL, they have the best chicken, and you can’t forget their signature mild sauce right along with their lemonade. For dinner, I would have to take them to STK Steakhouse or Cirque. I enjoy nature as well, so we would likely go to Piedmont Park or Ponce City Market. Atlanta has a fun nightlife; for the evening we would probably go bar hopping on Edgewood. I absolutely love BQE, Slush ATL, Café Circa, and Ghost Bar on Edgewood.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends! I’m so thankful for everyone who is in my life right now. Stay down you all because we are going to the top!
