Meet Maui Bigelow | Writer, Content creator, & Event producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maui Bigelow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maui, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My greatest thought and understanding was creating something that complimented my purpose. I know that my purpose is energizing and empowering women and girls. My desire was to assure that every business, brand, and event catered to women and girls.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have three titles in regards to work, they all are married to one another; writer, content creator, boutique owner and event producer. While each of these titles require different work the work is connected and requires me to be present and on task a lot. Being a entrepreneur and wearing several hats was a great challenge for me because the amount of discipline needed to great. You can’t afford to procrastinate, you don’t have a team backing you. And I don’t care what others say there is a level of comfort attached to working with a team that working alone lack. This is something that bothered me in the beginning.
Another thing that was hard was learning to properly handle my finances. When you work a 9-5 you know exactly when you’re getting paid and how much the pay will be. As a entrepreneur that is rare. As a freelancer writer and content creator, you must adjust to net 30 and 60(sometimes more).
While my brands have grown with my knowledge. I was forced to make sacrifice and chances. I had to commit to showing up for myself. I had to meet people, engage and asked questions although I didn’t want to. I worked for free and I’ve worked for less than i was worth, solely to build relationships and gain knowledge. This is how I grew each of my brands to what they are today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give much credit for who I am to my children; Zay and Daja. Being their mother made me want to be better in so many ways. Knowing that being great, working hard and showing up for myself would influence and impact their lives made me more intentional.
