We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Emme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First of all, thank you very much for reaching out to me and seeing fit to highlight my small business on your platform.  The Poor Little Rich Girl Studio is curated for the glamorous city girl… The Boss, the Traveler, the Foodie, the Student, the Artist, the 90’s Rap Connoisseur. Founded to offer High Fashion Style affordably, with brown skin and ethnic body types in mind.  I was inspired to open my online store as a hobby, while I worked full-time in Marketing/Data Science.  The store served as my creative outlet.  I have always been business minded, I owned my first company at 24 years old.  That coupled with my need for creative expression is how PLRGSE was birthed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PLRGSE based in Northern California is a conglomerate that includes, Poor Little Rich Girl Studio an online boutique, the Business Is Blooming Roundtable & IGTV series, and another online store catering to babies & toddlers (to be formally announced in 2022). My endeavor is to offer quality resources to women, specifically women of color. I founded both the Poor Little Rich Girl Studio and the Business is Blooming Roundtable, out of need. I created spaces I needed and I wished already existed. I seek to normalize excellent customer experiences, quality products, beautiful wrapping, fabrics & colors that compliment brown skin. I seek to inspire and challenge my peers, to collaborate not compete with other women, to master then share the cheat code, and to celebrate as a tribe. And I offer it all, affordably.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, welcome to The Bay!  We will go toast to a blessed life at the Brown Estate Winery in Napa.  My favorite wine there is a beautiful red, Chaos Theory. We’ll brunch at Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland, I always order Gumbo but they are known for Chicken & Waffles.  Finally, we can bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy the spa and dinner at Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito.  I am an Oakland native, and love to host folks from out of town.  I live in a beautiful place.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God gets all the glory, for all that I have learned and accomplished in my career and as a business owner. Secondly, I give great honor to my maternal grandmother who was a successful entrepreneur for over 50 years.
