Meet Dr. Jeff Rocker | Celebrity Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jeff Rocker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Jeff, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To be honest, just being myself and my commitment towards achieving greatness has always separated me from everyone else. But, the real secret sauce in terms of success came with discovering how to teach others to embrace and believe in themselves too. This is a skill set I’ll never get tired of expanding, and one that feels just as valuable on any day—whether I’m stepping into the shoes of “The Celebrity Therapist” with a high-profile client, or watching a group of kids powerfully expressing themselves during one of our Hip Hop Therapy sessions, usually with my jaw on the floor!

What should our readers know about your business?
As Dr. Jeff Rocker, aka “The Celebrity Therapist”, I have gained the respect and recognition as one of the top clinicians within my field. My moniker comes in part from my work with clients in the movie, music, and entertainment industry, alongside athletes in the NFL, NBA, and MLB. But there’s a little more to it than that. I provide therapeutic services to a diversity of people—for example, couples struggling to maintain a healthy relationship, troubled teens, professionals struggling to maintain a healthy work/life balance—and working with everyone to build their self-esteem and find their inner star-status.
We live in a society that makes too many people feel afraid of their luminosity—the things that make them unique. We also live in a culture that makes people pause instead of reaching out for help, when often, a little help is all they need to shine. A considerable amount of my work has been breaking down the stigmas around getting mental health support. We all need to step up sometimes, and when we actively give ourselves and each other permission to grab hold of resources that can provide us with a boost, life becomes a lot easier for all of us.
By sharing my ambition, and the joy I take in what I do, I hope to inspire others to feel emboldened to chase their own passion and happiness. Working with high-profile celebrity and sports clients; using major platforms, TV, radio, and so on: through these means I make sure that my entire audience can . Through my non-profit How We See It, I use hip hop as a vehicle for mental health awareness among young people, and deliver outreach to communities with a fantastic team. Meanwhile, through Rocker Management—I am the CEO of this management and consulting company, working with athletes, artists, and clinicians—I’m working to actively aid the next great thought-leaders and life-changers as they begin making their mark. It’s a holistic process!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Another tough question—we’re spoilt for choice here—but I’d say my perfect day out with a friend would mean heading to Atlanta, Georgia. The food, the culture, the history, the arts: it gets me every time.
The must-haves on the itinerary would include swinging by the Sweet Auburn Curb Market to take in the smells and sights. We’d have to go and get immersed in King family history at the Freedom Hall in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change, before checking out the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame, which is freshly located on a sidewalk along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The perfect wrap-up would be some authentic soul food and a Georgia Peach cocktail at Cafe Circa, with live jazz in the background. Atlanta always provides an opportunity to grow—not to mention, a feast for the senses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, that’s a big question; but, if I had to pick one ultimate source of inspiration that I’ve always turned to, it would have to be Kobe Bryant. Striving to mirror that Black Mamba attitude—a relentless pursuit of greatness—has always helped me through difficult times. I also love how Kobe shared his own evolution. He started with a laser-sharp vision and a total dedication to achieving his goals, but ultimately transitioned into using that power as rocket fuel to transform the lives of others.
He famously said, “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do,” and a big element of how he did that was always moving towards his potential and embracing the process, thus lighting up the path so that others could move more bravely towards theirs. From creating a mind-blowing personal brand, through to his work with young people with the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation and the After-School All-Stars, everything Kobe did had a big impact on me.
