Meet Erica Thomas | Income Tax Franchise Owner & Financial Consultant at Get Max Tax, LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, what inspires you?
I am inspired by so many things! However, being a mother, past and present struggles and my resilience are the main driving forces behind my inspiration. I was a teenage mom, and refused to be a statistic. Life was hard and a struggle to say the least! However, I managed to graduate from high school, put myself through college and fast forward to the present time, throughout the struggles and hardships, I was able to start my own businesses! I want my children to be proud of me. I want to be able to provide a life and legacy for them that they can pass along to their future children.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I am so very excited to be on an entrepreneur journey as a Franchise Owner of Get Max Tax! Get Max Tax is an Income Tax Company started by two young men that grew from one small office into a chain of offices all throughout the US with different Franchise Owners. I am blessed to be one of those Franchise Owners! The journey has not been an easy one for me, but it has been amazingly enlightening and motivating! I’ve always had a craving for being my own boss…..being an entrepreneur, and even while working stressful corporate jobs, and being a mom, I always managed to find a way to start my own business or side hustle. My goal has always been to one day be able to quit my job and be a full-time entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur…….that was always a dream I would never give up on even though it seemed like a very distant reality.  Low and behold, my dream became reality when I was laid off at my job in March of 2020 after the pandemic hit. I didn’t know it at the time, but my dreams were being manifested at that moment. Of course I was devastated, and due to no one hiring at that moment, I had no other plan of action. However, instead of sitting around sulking, I used the down time of not working as an opportunity to focus on my own business.

Although I worked more hours than I ever had worked in a day at my 9-5, I knew that that was the sacrifice that needed to be made in order for me to fulfill my dreams and goals. Months and months of hard work and dedication paid off when I was able to purchase a franchise and become a Franchise Owner of an Income Tax Company called Get Max Tax! This was a HUGE achievement for me as I was unemployed just one year ago!

This journey of entrepreneurship has not been easy. It did not happen overnight. It did not come without struggle and defeat. However, I have always been a fighter, one that never gives up and very resilient and thinking about my children and providing a better life for them, and passing along a legacy that I can be proud of is what helped me get through those tough moments.

I’ve learned so much in such a short period of time of becoming a full time entrepreneur. I’ve learned that it is okay to ask for help, that it is okay to make mistakes, to not know everything, to not be perfect and to even fall or fail. It’s okay because those things that make me flawed, those beautiful imperfections, are what makes for a stronger more dedicated and passionate me that I put towards my business, future and family’s future.

I am so excited to be on this entrepreneur journey as a Get Max Tax Franchise Owner.  Get Max Tax is not only a family amongst the other Franchise Owners, we believe in quality over quantity. We believe in providing a great place for our clients to not only feel like they are getting the best service, but also we want them to feel like family!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Great question!! Atlanta is a great city, especially for entertaining! There are so many places I would take them, I would need an additional page or two! LOL!

However, just to name a few places, we would brunch at Toast on Lenox, go bowling at The Painted Pin, check out some amazing art exhibitions at SCAD as well as The High Museum, dinner at Local Republic in downtown Lawrenceville and cocktails at The Garden Room Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family who has supported me with everything I have ever wanted to do, and to my two daughters…..the two people that inspired me to go hard and never give up!
