We had the good fortune of connecting with Britt Dias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britt, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Always choosing to be the light, no matter what. My purpose is to shine light on the dark areas in which people may have lost hope. I’m here to inspire, no matter who I run into… leaving people better than how I found them — that’s what makes my grand successful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a dynamic actress. I am authentic in my delivery. I feel everything so deeply and at most times have a decent hold on my emotions. When I’m excited, you feel excitement from me. If I’m frustrated, you’ll see frustrated. If I’m hurt, angry or confused, I know how to emote those things from a very true part of my soul. I bring this into my art. Acting is a form of healing for me. If the character calls for ‘angry’ I get to be angry to the best of my ability, tapping into true authenticity, and being able to release at the same time. All while putting on an entertaining performance that could put me on a platform to inspire the world. That’s the exciting part! I’m most eager about where this gift will take me and who all I’ll touch. I’ll heal myself, while healing the world by giving it something to authentically and unashamedly relate to. Once I grasped that concept, it was actually very easy for me to act once I understood what acting encompassed and how powerful it could be, if you’d be willing to dig deep. And, don’t think that after a riveting performance, you just bounce back into your normal “life”. A lot of times, the energy of a scene sticks with you. You have to take pause and bring yourself back to reality almost. I want everyone to know that one of the biggest secrets to being a great actor outside of knowing your lines like the back of your hand, is that it’s important to be okay with being alone. Acting, no matter whose in the room, requires you to be alone, in your mind. That’s the best way to block everyone and everything out, and just be, whatever the character is calling for at that time. When you’re focused on the people around you, you’ll get in your head and start to fear judgment. You’ll forget that this is ART and that you’re living out someone else’s truth. You’ll start to take things personally and care what other people think of you in that moment. Acting requires you to be ALONE. Remember that…
For my violin playing, it’s all about reigniting a childlike joy in me that allows me to remember where all of who I am blossomed from. My violin brings me back to what filled me up as a child. The simplicity of life and what it used to be. My violin gives me an opportunity to emote my passion in another way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start our day working out. We’d hit LA Fitness for an intense hip hop spin class, free our mind and align our chakras with a sprinkle of twerk at Trap Yoga hosted by the Playground, or we’d climb to the top of Stone Mountain with my trainer Kelly aka FitBodyKellz. Gotta get those endorphins pumping while taking care of our bodies. After the sauna, a shower and a nap I know our tummies will be rumbling. We’d have brunch at The Breakfast Boys in College Park, or Toast on Lenox in Buckhead. Since I’m creating this, I’m going to say we’re having some nice warm weather with a high of 80 degrees, so I’d definitely take my bestie to the waterfalls at either Vickery Mill Park in Roswell or Cascade Nature Preserve to sit and relax and meditate, write in our journals and enjoy the sights and sounds of rushing waters. Ahh relaxing. We’d definitely need to find us something creative and fun to do, so I’d probably take her to one of my favorite Tapas restaurants Eclipse di Luna in Buckhead for some live salsa, Spanish music and sip and paint! Whooo hooo. I’d take her thrifting in Little Five Points, and then we’d have to go see Jake the Face Reader to see what the spirit world is looking to tell us. We’d go enjoy some Float Therapy and get some foot massages before we go and grab pedicures. I then would have to take her to hear some live music! We’d hit up Monticello’s or St. James LIVE or Negril Village. I’m sure I’d keep her busy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my success to the resilience that refuses to fade away. I have made it through every obstacle that has been put before me, while doing my best to keep my smile and inspire others — even when I’m down.
