We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Stroope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued woodworking because I love having a creative outlet. Being able to bring a project to life with my own hands is so gratifying. And I love what it does for my mental health. The creative process is so exciting and having a tangible piece of art at the end is very rewarding.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My pieces are completely handmade and one of a kind. I have a small woodworking shop in our garage and I love spending time creating and working on new projects. I started by making a piece for my friend as a gift 3 years ago. I have grown so much and learned a lot. I also have 2 little boys so finding time to work on new projects isn’t always easy. But I absolutely love the ability to stay home with my kids while also woodworking when I can. I love making my own schedule and accepting custom pieces as they come in. I want people to know that every piece of art that comes out of McCall’s Wood Works is made with a lot of care and love. I also want them to know that when they are supporting a small business like mine, they are changing the life of the person and the family behind that small business. I am so grateful to be where I am because it took a lot of hard work to get here. And I can’t say thank you enough to the people that have supported me along the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have fallen in love with downtown Ball Ground. I live nearby and it is an incredible little place with a lot to offer.

There are some amazing food spots like Dominics Food Truck, The Burger Bus, and Jill’s Bakery.
Barrel House Coffee Company is the perfect place to grab a bourbon barrel aged cup of coffee and Scooped on Main is a cute little ice cream shop.

Ball Ground is a short drive to the beautiful mountains of north Georgia where there are lots of hiking trails. My family and I love to hike and get out into nature. We recently went camping at Carter’s lake for our sons 1st birthday and it was wonderful. We stayed at the Doll Mountain Campground and we highly recommend it!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people in my life deserve recognition in my story. My husband James, our 2 boys, my parents, in-laws, and my amazing friends. These people have been so incredibly supportive through every step and I am so grateful for their love. They give me so much confidence and my experience wouldn’t be the same without them.
